Austin Ramsey, cne of the oldest residents of this section, died at his home in this city last Thurs day evening, June 13th, after an illness of more than a year past. The funeral was held Saturday at 11 a. m. from the Methodist church, conducted by Rev, Lane, of Moran, after which interment was made in the Uniontown cemetery.

He leaves a wife, three sons and one daughter, Mrs. L. E. Holt, of this city, all of whom were present at the end. Austin Howard Ramsey was born in Marion county, Indiana, in 1853, and died June 13th, 1912.

In 1857, together with his mother and four brothers, he emigrated to Kansas and settled near what is now Redfield Later on he purchased a farm near Uniontown where he resided many years, subsequently moving to Uniontown, where he died. In 1861 he enlisted in the Tenth Kansas infantry, serving over three years. At the close of his enlistment he returned to his farm and was known as a successful farmer and heavy taxpayer to the close of his life. He joined the Methodist Protestant church in in 1876, retaining his membership to the close of life. ROCKFORD VALLEY.

On account of rainy weather, the Childrens' Day exercises at the M. E. church was postponed until Sunday evening June 23rd. Everybody invited. Mrs.

H. V. and Mrs Chas. Cow. an came out from Uniontown Saturday and stayed a couple of days with home folks.

Mrs. Treadway made a trip to Sayonburg Friday morning to do some trading. Mrs. Muhlenberg came out from Uniontown Sunday evening to visit awhile with home folks. A few of the young people of this vicinity attended the Ice Cream social given at the home of Mr.

and Mrs. Oscar Cowan, Wed nesday evening June 12. A large crowd was present and all ed to have a good time. Mr. Clinton Vanlandingham made his regular trip to Ft Scott Wednesday.

The party given at Clarks, Friday evening, June 14th, was well attended, there being abouf sixty present and all report a good time. Clarence Honn has plenty of time now days to russell him a Cook but we believe he will be a Miller as his father has a new en gine and feed grinder and Clarence grinds all kinds of grrin. Mrs. Dallas Newell was in Sav onburg Saturday morning doing her weeks shopping. Sell The Hay, Tomorrow, (Saturday) afternoon the Board of Managers of the Fair will sell the hay on the Fair Grounds to the highest bidder for cash in hand.

Some of the best hay in this part of the country is grown there and there will likely be a number of bidders for it. The hay crop last year brot in nearly $100.00 and it is fully as good a crop as last year. The money will be used for Fair ground improvements. Joe Eastwood made a trip to Bronson Saturday afternoon, G. H. Atkisson and wife spent Sunday at S. M. Graham's, near Dayton.

M. B. Atkisson and Chester Green made a trip to Ft. Scott last Friday. J.

G. Eastwood who was here visiting his. nephew and family, left last Thursday for Girard. A number from here went fishing on the Osage, Saturday afternoon and caught some nice fish. Mr.

and Mrs. Maxwell, from near Harding, spent Sunday here with their son, Gene and family. Mr. and Mrs. Ira Jones entertained the club Saturday even ing.

A large crowd was present and a pleasant evening was spent. E. F. Shute Is Dead. E.

F. Shute, a well and favor ably known citizen of this city, died at his home here this (Friday) morning at 3 o'clock. He had been ill for the past year and for the past three months had been bed fast. The funeral will be beld next Sunday at 11 a. m.
