RUTH Has opened a complete stock of The first number of the Arkansas Traveler, published 'at Arkansas City, Cowley county, has come to hand, and as we expected, and predicted, it is among the best country newspapers in Kansas. It is neat sheet of six columns, well gotten up, and looks as smiling and intelligent as its paternal ancestor, the Emporia Tribune. The Traveler is published by M. G. Mains, who will made it a paper that will, because of its excellence and superiority, travel to the home of every pioneers in Cowley county.

H. B. Norton, the special contributor for the Traceler, is one of the ablest writers in the State, and in that capacity we believe will assist in making it one of the. best and most successful journals in the State. We sincerely hope that the paper will prosper, and that the enterprise of Mr.

Mains will be rewarded beyond precedence. The following appeared in the Traveler, as the "Salutatory:" The Traveler. The Arkansas Traveler of tradition was a toaceo-sobbering, whiskey drinking, raw-boned Pike, with a slouched straw hat, a very dirty shirt, and a full assortment of pistols and knives. Hislanguage was sadly profane, and his general aspect disreputable. Times and men are changing, however.

The Arkansas Traveler of this time and place, is a very different personage. He conies among us by Parker Tisdale's new line of coaches, He presents an unexceptionable array of clean linen and silk-mixed eassimeic. He has a sharp eye for the Texan and Indian trade, mill sites, railroad routes, and corner lots. He believes in blooded Notice of Contest. u.
