A. Society OFFICIAL CALL. There will be a convention of the Democrats of Kansas held in the city of Hutchinson, Thursday, March 14, 1912, at the hour of twelve, noon; for the purpose of electing four delegates and four alternates to represent the State of Kansas at the National Democratic Convention to be held in Baltimore, Juue the 25th, 1912, and to ratify the selection of sixteen delegates and sixteen alternates to be elected by the delegates from each Congressional District ATTENDING THIS CONVENTION, also to elect a National Committeeman to repesent the State of Kansas on the National Democratic Committee, and to take up such other business as may come before said convention. The delegates to this convention will be selected in such manner and at such time and place and under such rules and regulations as may be prescribed by the different county central committees of the various counties and the basis of representation shall be one delegate and one alternate for each 250 votes or major fraction thereof cast for Honorable Ray L. Taylor candidate for secretary of State in the election in 1910, and one delegate and one alternate at large from each county, it being understood that no county shall have less than two delegates.

Upon this basis McPherson County will be entitled to six delegates. The committee requests that the counties select their delegates and alternates to attend the state convention either by delegate or mass convention not later than the 7th day of March, and that a list of said delegates and alternates be mailed to Secretary Pepperell at Concordia, as soon after the selection as possible, so that it will reach him not later than the evening of March the 11th, so that he can prepare a roster of the delegates belore the convention meets. After that, mail everything pertaining to the convention to him at Hutchinson. This is important so as to have no delay in the necessary workings of this con- vention. Morris died at his home on East Kansas Avenue Saturday night at 10:45 o'clock. He was aged seventytwo years, eleven months and eight days. Since the death of his son Arthur last March, his friends have noticed that his health was failing and he quietly passed away. Mr. Morris was born March 5th, 1839, at Hammond, St.

Lawrence County, New York, and his youth was spent there and at Ogdensberg, in the same county, where he received a collegiate education. At the first call for troops at the outbreak of the Civil War, he enlisted 2S sergeant in Company D. 16th New York Infantry was promoted to 2nd. Lieu. Nov.

15, 1862, and was mustered out May 22, 1863. He reenlisted as 1st Lieut. in the 20th independent Battery of New York Heavy Artillery, from which he was honorably discharged July 31, 1865. He participated in the principal engagements of the Army of the Potomac from Bull Run to Chancellorsville, and was severely wounded at the battle of Gaine's Mill, June 27, 1862. After the close of the war he went West and made his home in Marion County Illinois, where in 1866 he was married to Miss Avia B.

Gain, who died Nov. 4, 1877. To this union were born Max of Roxbury, Kansas, and Lillie, wife of Sheriff Lloyd E. Jackson of this city. In April, 1878, Mr.

Morris came to Kansas, and settled on a farm near Roxbury. Here, for a number of he also taught school, Dec. 25, 1879 he was married to Miss Martha A. Frazer, who survives him; of the children born of this marriage there are Edith, wife of Walter S. Tolle of Roxbury, Ralph E.

of Roseburg and Lloyd and Jasper J. of Brandon Oregon In 1901 Mr. Morris came to this city where he has since made his home. He was engaged in the feedyard bus. iness.
