J9. United States Senator Baker said last night that he looked for no general legislation to be passed at this session of Congress, unless, it should be a bankrupt act.1 In tlio Senators judgment there will bo no taritl bill, no bond bill and no financial Dill of any kind adopted. The silver" senators will block everything unless they be permitted to add free sih'er. The signs point to a bankrupt act, drawn somewhat after tlio Torry bill, which has boon before Congress so often. Speaking ef the political outlook for 189(1, Senator Baker said, of course, that the Republicans aaouuI elect president and vice president, The silver men do not believe this, but Mr.

19. This part of tlio State is in a fever of excitement over new developments which bid fair to unravel the mystery surrounding death of Maude Strawn, tlio handsome 18-year-old school girl, whose lifeless body was found in her room at her married sister's home here last? week. It is supposed that tlio girl had been dead for three or four clays when found, as decomposition had set in. The corpse was discovered Saturday and the girl had not been in attendance at school since AVednesday forenoon, nor had anyone seen her on the streets. At 11 oclock AVednesday Miss Strawn asked 1 to, excused, as she expected company aiid had to get dinner herself, ns her, sister, with' wlrom she was staying, had gone to the country on a visit.

That is the last time she was' seen alive by her teacher or scliaolmates. Neighbors saw' her enter the house where she boarding, and the first chapter of this mysterious tragedy ends. 1 I Saturday Art Gruff, a of the deceased, went to the house to discover what trace he could find of the missing girl, and was the first to view Hie ghastly spectaclo. On the Avail hung a -bird which 'contained a dead canary. The fact that the bird was also dead leads to the theory that chloroform had been administered.

It ivas thought at first to he a case of suicide, but later developments have entirely exploded that theory; and A. Hull and G. Morello have been arrested charged Avith having criminal knowledge of the girlVileatli. It developed at the coroner's inquest that Bull und Morello Avcre seen to enter the house on AVednesday, the day that Miss Strawn is supposed to have met her death. Bull lias of late been paying considerable attention td Miss Strawn, and it is thought' that he secured the girls confidence and that lie was the visitor she referred to when asked to be excused from senool on that fatal day.

Tlie supposition is that Bull took Morello along Avith him, and by administering the drug they accomplished her ruin and death.
