A 3 Sd OG to 7 gocitl gcynrttncitt. Snow has come at last. Three frosts bring rain. January so far is pleasant. The ice men want a freeze.

It snows, cries the school boy, Hurrah! The boys with their skates are longing for the river to freeze up. Walnut street is the liveliest street in town, during school days. The Adams Express Company have decided to carry no more lottery matter. The Methodist church bell was heard every afternoon during the week of prayer. Yocal music has been added to the high school course.

This is the right thing to be done. Protracted meetings now at Cadmus M. E. Church. Rev.

Showalter is assisting the pastor, Rev. J. H. McNary. School starts off with renewed energy.

The two weeks vacation was what was needed for teachers and pupils. The old organ in the M. E. Church has been sold to East Mount Zion Church, and a new Epworth organ will be put in its place. The new teacher in No.

5, Mr. Fuller, appears to be a gentleman and good teacher. It is thought he will make a fine success. The Epworth League will give their regular exercises on Wednesday night, the 14th. The revival service will be held in connection with it.

The Fourth Quarterly Meeting of the Fontana charge was held at Parker the 11th and 12th. Parker may be the head of the circuit next year. Rev. D. F.

Holtz assisted Rev. J. II. McNary in a revival meeting at Fontana. Me in return, has preached twice at La Cygne during the protracted meeting.

Five pieces of instruments wrere used in the practice of instrumental and vocal music at the close of the young peoples Bible reading, Sunday, 11th, at the Methodist church. Hereafter this practice is intended to be kept up so as to render music for both church and Sunday school. Brother Harvey Tyler is leader.

We have on the sick and invalid list, the following names: Mrs. J. Shrake, confined to the house with rheumatism William Wolfe, with rheumatism James Mc-Clintock Mrs. Sarah Swan, near Jingo, sick with fever. We are glad, however, to report that the general health of the people is good.

Since our last issue the marriage bells have been ringing, as was noted in the La Cygne Journal. That of G. W. Davis, of Washington, D. to Miss Carrie Johnson, of La Cygne.

Lowry Swan to Miss Clara Sims, both of Miami county. These were joined in matrimony by Rev. D. F. Holtz.

Although late, yet The Visitor takes this opportunity to wish these happy couples long life, pleasure and prosperity. H. W. Cooper has just returned from a business trip to Joplin, and Pittsburgh, and he declares we have just as good facilities at La Cygne for making a good, lively town as anywhere, the whole town and country around being underlaid with good coal. Why dont some enterprising men organize a coal company here? This would call in manufacturing establishments, then La Cygne would become a town of note.

Try him and he convinced. East Mount Zion have their pastor paid up for the year, except four dollars, which will soon be paid. The outlook for the prosperity of the East Mount Zion church is quite favorable. Miss Emily Cooper is now conducting the young peoples Bible reading Sunday afternoons at the M. E.

Church. It is a very excellent place for young men and ladies to spend an hour. The sixtieth anniversary of the marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Holtz, of Fairview, Ohio, father and mother of Rev.

D. F. Holtz, of this city, was an occasion of much pleasure at their home on December 30. Another surprise came from Jingo. A book, The Beautiful Story.

It was brought to the parsonage and presented by W. M. Poe with the names of the donors. God bless all these warm hearted friends. Our church benevolences are yet in the rear.

If you have not paid on the benevolences for this year dont fail to hand to the pastor. He hopes to make his report at Conference for La Cygne charge very favorable. Bankers and merchants in La Cygne are crying dull times. Is it a wonder? Are they advertising their business through the columns of the city papers Nothing pays better in dull times than to do wise advertising. Tiie Visitor is read by thousands of people.

The ladies of the church very much surprised their pastor by presenting him The program as was announced for the M. E. Church for New Years Eve was carried out with a good audience. Everyone appeared to be interested. Rev.

J. Price, of Paola, preached a very interesting sermon at 10 oclock. When 12 oclock came a large number of men and women were on their knees consecrating themselves afresh unto the Lord. Every moment of time was interestingly and profitably spent, from 8 :30 to 12 oclock. Death is again in our midst.

Mrs. A. C. Brewer, wife of Dr. David Brewer, who is at Fort Smith, Arkansas, doing work in his profession, died Tuesday morning, 13tli at 5 oclock.

Mr. and Mrs. Denton and Mrs. Gudgell were present at the time of her death. Her husband has been telegraphed for and will doubtless be home at his very earliest convenience.

The funeral will be Thursday, January 15, at 2 oclock, at the M. E. Church. Sister Brewer has long been a member of the M. E.
