The republican convention for the sixth judicial district will be hed at Fort Scott on the 13.U day of Attest, 1891, at 3 p- for the purpose of Dominating a judge for said district, and the transaction ot such other business as may come before the convention. Thomas Holbert, aged sixty six years. The funeral services conduoted by Rev. A. J. Dillon, occurred on Sunday, July 26th, when a large concourse of friends gathered to pay tribute to an honored neighbor.

Before the opening exercises 109 had enrolled and fit this date, Tuesday evening, 15c) have enrolled and probably 5 more, to enroll are in attendance. This is by far the best attendance at the opening of any Institute ever held in Linn county. The work: done so far has been very satisfactory and everything bids fair for one ot the most profitable institutes in the state.

It a ilotic-ibie fact that most of those attending are ladies, and the indications are favorable for an over, production of school ma'ams in old Linn. The superintendent suggests that school boards be not in a hurry to engage teachers but wait until after the institute. Usually it is the live teachers who attend the teachers' institutes.
