A number of first- class buildings have been and are beig erected; two kilns of brick are being burned, and tho town is enjoying a healthy boom.

John E. Morton is entitled to the belt of the champion melon and squash raiser. One day last week he sold to Cross Crunimor a watermelon which weighed 4'JJ pounds and a squash which tipped the beam at 5.0 pounds, full weight. Among tho numerous now buildings to be, erected in Protection, will be one for Morris Peak, of Coldwater, to be used as a harness store and shop. Mr, Peak is a practical harness maker, and will "strike it rich" by coming to the Valley Queen.

W. T. Holland, at Crawford's Overland livery and food stable, is now ready to care for teams and furnish good rigs or saddle horses. The barn is complete, and the rigs are as nice and neat as can be found anywhere in this section of the state. City Hot el, under its new management, fully sustains the excellent reputation which it has so long enjoyed.

Mr. and Mrs. Gibson have a peculiar knack of making guests feel at home, and tho table is supplied with the very best the market affords, Notices have been posted in town requesting the voters of school district No. 15 to meet at Manning hall, on Monday, August 80, at 2 o'clock P. for the purpose of selecting a site for the new school building to be erected in this city.

A full turnout is desired. One of the largest and most complete stocks of hats ever brought to the county lias just arrived at Cross Cruin-mer's. The assortment includes everything from a cheap wool to the very best felt, fur and beaver hat, both soft and stiff, and of colors to suit any complexion. He is eminently qualified for the duties of thu office to which he aspires, and if elected will be found in the front rank of workers in the next House, and will guard well the interests of his constit uents. Considerable real estate has changed hands within the last ten days, and a greater part of it has advanced from twenty-live to fifty per cent, within the same period. Our town has its share N)f specidators and men seeking busi ness locations, all of whom express themselves as pleased with the Queen of the Valley and the beautiful, fertile country surrounding her; and before leaving, if they don't locate, as an evidence of their good faith in the future great commercial center which is almost certain to have a railroad ithin a year, a 'id good prospects for two more -they universally invest in real estate, which can be had as yet at ti.mn.u t.nt is ,111 J'' rapidly.

Protection is offering at present the most flattering inducement to be had in the southwest. The future of this town is an assured fact and the live speculator i catching on. Shields and County Surveyor Leo were in this city this week and invested considerable in town lots, They are wide awake gentleman and know where to invest. The railroad excitement lias already greatly enha net the value of town and farm property in this county, and lots and farms are selling rapidly.

Verily, "There's millions in it" for the people of Comanche county. Dillingham Holman, the Muilinville druggists, have constantly on hand a large and complete stock of everything kept in a first-class drug store, and will sell at "live and let live" prices. Give them a call. G. W.

Mr. W. will return in about two weeks, his daughter remaining in Ohio with a married sister until next spring. Mrs. George W.

About a month ago, George Taylor, who had been in the livery business in this city, "skipped out," Soon afterwards it was discovered that Home horses which he had disposed of were mortgaged, and that a number of bills which lie had contracted remained un-paid. Messrs. Reynolds, W. M. Squire, Dr.

Vauwy and other victims offered a reward of $50 for. his arrest and on Wednesday Sheriff Rowers brought him in and claimed the reward.
