(Chicago Inter-Ocean.) The purchasing agents of the United States Government have ordered nearly one hundred thousand pounds of Dr. Price's Baking Powder in the first five months of this year, 1892. The government exercises great care in selecting its supplies of all kinds, rejecting everything that is not of the best, and the very fact that it has adopted Dr. Price's Baking Powder is proof that it has found it the best of all the baking powders. Dr.

Price's is peculiarly adapted for exports, as neither long sea voyages nor climatic changes affect it, this brand keeping fresh and sweet for years while other baking powders deteriorate rapidly. Sold by Lockwood Morrison. Mrs. Nellie Maynard, the noted medium of White Plains, New York, has recently passed from this life to the Realm of the Beautiful. During the life of Abraham Lincoln, this spirituelle woman was frequently summoned to the city of Washington to enable the President of the United States to' communicate by means of her mediumistic powers, with those who had pased to the other side and yet clung to their earth life and retained their interest in the critical condition of their countrymen. Lincoln's faith in this form of psychical manifestations may not be generally known, but that such a belief was entertained by him is a fact.

Mrs. Maynard was slight and frail tc the extreme, beiDg lovingly cared for by her devoted husband and friends, her life was an ideal one. K. R. P.

In Memory of 3Ir O. II. Smith. by claka a. foy.

Death has once more come among us, And filled another home with g'oom, Many loving hearts now mourn, While his victim is sleeping in the tomb. Why did death take that mother. From her family and her home Three little children left like lambs, Alone on a mountain side to roam. And her companion Is left to grieve, Now that her spirit is called above, Gloomy to him is all the world, Without a wife to cherish and love. Yes, why are mothers taken, From their babes such tender flowers, Life's empty without another's love, In this cold world of ours.

On the 4th day of July, When our nation should rejoice, The family bowed in mourning, They had no other choice Vhat was her mother's feeling, And the sister while on their way, The train crept slowly onward, Bearing them to that loyed form of clay. Thus loving hearts are divided, Death tonk that loving mother and wife. Were there too many thorns Strewn in her path through life To such a question as that, We can only answer no, Death is no respector of persons, It seemed her time to go. With tenderness we placed her form, In the dark and silent grave, For dust returns to dust, The spirit to the God who gave. As I kissed the little babe, My silent prayer was waft above, That with its aunts and randma, It ne'er would miss a mother's love.

Normal Kotes. The teachers in attendance punctual and regular, and the work goes on with increasing interest. Prof. Black is proving himself to be an efficient instructor' and his instruction in methods, especially in primary work will be of lasting benefit to teachers and schools of Comanche County. Thursday, August 11th, finds the second week of the Normal is nearing its close 47 members have enrolled, agains-t 65 last year, but there win no doubt be some ad dition to the present enrollment.

Con sidering the extreme heat of the weather that has operated to check the ardor of teachers, and the fact that stacking and threshing are in full operation, we do not look upon the comparative small atten dance as discouraging. With Prof. Curran the readers of the Echo-Advocate are acquainted, and it is useless to state that his recitations are in-terspread with variety, which is the spice of life Supt. Pennington calls the roll daily and with smiles of approval, and word? of encouragement, lends euthusiasm to the work. Aug.

17th Normal still increases in number, there being 49 enrolled Among our- late visitors were two ladies from Winfield.
