The shrewd directors of the Meade Deposit Bank saw that more money could be judiciously handled in tbh county, and accordingly they reorganized the bank, increased the paid up capital, changed the name to Bank of Meade Center and added directors whose financial standing is recognized among the moneyed men of America.

Oue of tbe new directors Is the Hon. James A. Blair, president First Xatonal Bank of Medicine Lodge, a polished gentleman and a sound financier. Another director is the Hon. C.

F. M. Niles, Register U.8. Land Office at Garden City, who is well and favorably known throughout the entire state. Again, we find O.

C. Ewart, Cashier First Rational Bank of Medicine Lodge, a wealthy and prominent gentleman; also W. L. Blair, president Deposit Bank of Nevada, Ohio, who with M. J.

O'Meara and M. II. Ewart of this city compose the directory. As to the latter two gentlemen it is unnecessary for us to make any comment. They have been in this community several months, and by their strict attention to business, ther honesty and integrity have won the confidence and esteem of the entire community.

We feel a persoual pride in the suc cess of our business men, and are delighted to chronicle the fact that the Bank of Meade Center is one of the most solid institutions in the great southwest. While in the metropolitan cities of Kansas no money is loaned on personal security excepting to cue-, tomers of the bank, this bank, away out on the "Great American Desert" has its doors open to everybody from a. m. to 4 p. m.

If you can't borrow money at tbe Bank of Meade Center it is because you can't give the security. The bank has all the money it can haudle. For the benefit of farmers and those desiring advancements on real estate, the Bank of Meade Center has added a real estate loan department, by which money will be furnished on the same day for which it is applied, and when the interest coupons mature the borrower can pay them off at the bank iu this city and not be annoyed transmitting semi-annually the interest to New York or some other distant place and having to assume the risk in the transmission, as is the case when doi ing business with all the foreign loan? ing companies of southwestern Kansas. It seems to us this is quite a consideration, and, should the mortgager be pressed for interest, he may hypothecate personal property to a home institution for 90 days, during which time he could in all probability meet the interest accrued obligation. We merely make these suggestions to demonstrate the practical workings and superiority of a home institution over foriegu syndicates, Speak a Good Word.

Speak a good word for our town and county whenever an opportunity presents itself. Towns often die from want of confidence among their citizens. Opposition and rivalry should only serve to spur us up to greater activity and cause us to work the harder for our town. When a man is in search of a home and finds everyone brimful of hope aud enthusiasm over the outlook of a place aud earnestly working to build up its enterprises, he soon becomes influenced by the same spirit and as a result, drives down his stake and goes to work himself with the same interest. On the other hand if he goes to a place and finds discord among the citizens, and hears everybody expressing doubts and apprehensions as to the hopes of a town, and moping about indulging in mournful complaints of imaginary evils which may befall the town, he naturally turns from such a place and with a sigh pulls for other fields more agreeable.

Meade Center has before her a bright future, and now let us all pull together and never say "fail." The townsite having been proven up and property deeded, our business men are now directing their attention to beautifying their residence property, upon some of which dame nature has lavished her richest stores. We notice the picturesque block of Dr. James Kelly, on Meade Center Ave. south, is undergoing a high state of cultivation. The block has long since been fenced and a neat barn erected, and now the Dr.

is planting shade aud or namental trees with the greatest care and system, an example which would be well for many othejr citizens to follow. The Dr. ha9 the plans and specifications for his prospective cattage, which will be a model of architectural grandeur for (bis county. The Dr's block is one of the most sightly aiu elegant locations in the city. Just Received.

Ve have just received a full supply of stationery, an elegant assortment of new type and a ruew improved Job press, and now ve are prepared to (Jo all kinds of job work, equal to any printing house in southwestern Kans. We guarantee satisfaction in every respect, and solicit a share of the patronage of Meade county. Come ia and see our facilities and be convinced I cf our assertion. Wednesday the gentle zephyrs moved most everything that was loose a promiscuous manner. Real estate was on the raise in the air.

Houses were shaken on their foundations, and "banks," that did not have a "solid basis" were disabled ami laid over for repairs. Hockey, Hart Ney, tho land brokers of Meade Center, show their face in this issue of the Telegram. 'This team is one of the strongest in Meade county, true pullers, and always work to the best interest of their many patrons in every respect, and pleasant men to deal with. We learn that the great lumberman G. B.

Shaw, Stephens, a banker of Anthony, Thompson, banker and fOieoiber of the House of Representatives, J. A. Eaton, banker of Winfield andj other prominent men are among the incorporators of Boyd City in "No Man's Laud," the local officers which reside at Meade Center. Mr. T.

P. Rynier has opened up a large wholesale and retail flour and feed store on the south side of the Square, and from his gentlemanly appearance and immense stock, we believe he will command the largest per cent, of the trade of Meade county. When you are in need of flour or feed it will be to 3-our interest to step in and see him. Last Tuesday afternoon we seated ourself behind Jim Kelly's fine match team of sorrels for a ride into the couutry on a duckiug expedition. We eDjoyed the ride hugely, bagged a number of ducks and returned to the greatly refreshed over the pleasant ride, and thoroughly convinced that Jim sports the "dandy'' roadsters of Meade Center.

M. A. Macdonald, the hardware prince of Meade Center, is always on the lookout for the welfare of our citizens. He has now added an immeuse stock of goods to his large establishment that will do you good to look at. They are such goods as the people in the west are in need of, and it is highly important that you investigate.

Read his ad in another column. Contractor Butler's men and teams passed through here last Monday from the New Kiowa works to Kingman, where they will at once engage in the work of extending the Wichita and Western railroad into Pratt county. There must have been some immediate demand for this work beiug commenced by the Santa Fe company or the forces from the Kiowa extension would not have removed to suddenly. Barber Index. "How's that for high?" We notice another butcher shop opened up in the corner building formerly accupied as the Osgood Hotel. In walking over the city we were surprised at the large number of new houses in course of erection. Thursday was a good day for making garden, and a good of our citizens took advantage of the warm sunshine. When you are in need of bill heads, letter heads, statements, envelopes, cards, blanks of any kind, qr anything else that is done in a first-class print-in house, call on the The freighters from Dodge City to this place will hereafter charge fifty cents per hundred on all goods. If any person on earth earns their money, it is tho poor freighter, and a small raise of ten cents will not be felt by our merchants, while at the game time greatly benefits the laborer.

The Telegram is in receipt of the report for the quarter ending March 31, 1S86, of the Kansas State Board of Agriculture, from Wm, Sims, secretary at Topeka, Kansas, for which the board has our thanks. The report contains much valuable information. It is unfortunate that the most favorable season for the inauguratiion of a 83-stem of home adornment, by the planting of trees and Cowering shrubs, should also be one of the busiest seasons on the farm. The long winter is over and farmers everywhere are impatient to be preparing for the crops which must soon be planted; but a very few hours judiciously spent in planting shade or fruit trees around the home or along the highway will be many times repaid in the near future, not only in tho comfort their shade will give, but the additional money value they will give to the farm.
