Walter Sprasrue returned from Muscotah, yesterday, where he had been taking in the New Year. George J. Johnson returned from the southern part of the state, yester day, where he had been spending the holidays with his best girl. Council Proceedings. The common council met last eve 'ning ia regular session at the office of Merrill Mahin. Mayor Miller, preHont, councilmen present, Merrill, Bradley, McDowell and Shannon. Absent, Blouvelt. Minutes of regular meeting of Dec.

13th read and approved and minutes of special meeting of January 2nd read and approved. The petition of the butchers of the city was thon presented to close meat markets on Sunday and referred to the ordinance committee. The petition of Mrs. McNerney et si for a sidewalk on the south side of Delaware street from Main to High -street was presented and on motion referred to ordinance committee to draft ordinance for the same. Auditing committee reported favorably on the bills of H.

W. Johnson for road scrapers, Julius Pohl, fialve, $1.00. On motion the bills were allowed and warrants ordered drawn for the amounts. Fire committee reported having visited Chillicothe and examined fire apparatus of that city, found it in good condition and recommend the purchase of the same at the price of $780.00. Ordinance committee reported ordinance No.

55 council voting as follows Merrill, yea; Bradley, yea 5 McDowell, yea; Shannon, yea; Blauvelt, yea. Ordinance No. 5G was referred back to ordinance committee to redraft. The following bills were presented, road and referred to auditing committee: Bros $78 65 J. S.

'24 and Doc. 31, were allowed and clerk ordered to draw warrants for the amounts to the respective parties.

On motion the council then adjourned. Thoroughbred Stock. Dr. H. A.

Grimmell on his return from Iowa last week brought with him some of the finest thoroughbred stock to be had. He brought a Hamiltonian stallion which was sired by a horse with a record of 2:18 and alBO is a half brother to J. I. C. He is as lino a loosing animal as was ever brought to this section.

Also the doctor brought two Jersey cows, a Jersey bull, several thoroughbred I'olin China hogs and some Buff coachin chickens, which 'make all together a very fine outfit of stock. Dr. Grimmell greatly appreciates just such kind as those and it is hoped that he may have splendid success with them. Society at Kcnnekuk. One of the pleasantest events of the liolidays was a dinner party given by Mr.
