The friends of Mr. McAtee claim the nomination was not a fare one as Mr. Nadeau did not re--ceive a majority of the votes of the convention. Mr. Nadeau received the nomination at the convention but whether he will profit by it remains to be seen at the election next month.

CITY ATTORNEY. The undersigned begs, to submit his name to the electors of the City of Horton as that of a ecandidate for election to the position of City Attorney. Dated this 13th day of March, 1899. Cameron Smith. 7e are coming, bleeding Cuha, a hundred thousand strong; With "Remember" for our watchword and "Free Cuba" for our song.

A.1 though-the priests and Levites of the nations pass thee by Where the Spanish -thieves have stretched thee on the world's-hig-h- road to die, Yet have we, God's last Samaritans, thy cry for succor heard, And we hasten to the rescue with a twofold battle word. While Pity in thy gaping wounds pours healing o.U and wine, Swift Retribution shall avenge each wrong of ours and thine. We are coming, starving Cuba, with our harvests' gracious yields, With the bounty of our storehouse and the fruitage of our fields. For -God hath the nations that His hungry must be fed, And we hear thy famished pleadings for the pity of our bread. In the places made a desert by the despot's hard decree We shall pour the saving plenty 01 a nation's sympathy.

Then bear a' little longer the bitter hunger-pain, For our ships are speeding toward thee with their golden stone1 of grain. We are coming, Cuba, with the healing of onr guns, And the spirit of the nation in the hearts of all its sons. To the Northland's sacred anthem and the Southern "Dixie" dear March the sons of somber Puritan and the gallant Cavalier, rn the battle cry of freedom shall blend that thrilling strain That shall herald stern requital at the crimsoned hands of Spain. For until, our starry ensign, o'er Spanish ramparts. waves Our heroes sleep dishonored in their sacrificial graves.

the house of one Henry Kohne and took him out and gave him an unmerciful beating1. Kohne's wife fought desperately with the men, but was unable to save her husband. No one seems to known just what the offense of Kohne had been. Some of the neighbors became very indiguant and demanded punishment for the suspected parties. One of these neighbors, N.

Lear by name, swore out a warrant for certain men. Scarcely had he done so when he receved warning that the whitcappers intended to take vengeance on him. But Mr' Lear did not weaken. On the contrary he wrote a piece for the White Cloud Globe over his own signature, and it is such artistic work, of defiance that we quote fromit as follows: "I wish to say to you you who had a hand in this diabolical outrage that you are set of low down, cowardly curs that would tease a caged lion, but run from a liberated tadpole! You are so low down that you would rob your mother's grave and and sell her bones to the junk dealer! You are so morally corrupt that the breath from your foul lungs would kill the microbes of the Texas itch! Neither will the flies blow you nor the worms eat you! Neither will the ants build nests in you worthless skull! Soul? If ye have them they ar doomed to burn in the hottest depths of hell! If you want me you know where to find me. The violent protest of the New York Journal against the electrocution of Mrs. Place was without reason. If the Journal were advocating the abolition of capital punishment this might be consistent, but the proper place to advocate abolition was not with the government, but the The Journal did not take a position against capital punishment, but took position against the punishment of the woman, Mrs! Place, and insisted on commutation of her sentence, simply because she was a woman. Her guilt was proven beyond doubt, and again her sanity also was beyond doubt, and under the law she deserved capital punishment, for she was a murderer, and the Journal's agitation was mere sentiments.
