December 1st will see the llock Island roa.d equipped and running into "West Plains. The Santa Fe people are lying o-n their oars at present.

Some papers state that they have ordered off seventeen corps of surveyors and over 2afl tracklayers, and are not doing any work on railroad in this state except from. Sa-lina to Manchester. No good reason is ascribed for this, but the majority conjecture that they will give their chief attention to the Chicago division, and will try to complete that as soon as possible in order to compete with the llock Island. We would rather like to see the Santa Fe pull out for a while than build, as it would give us a fine trade from the north, west and south that we would not get if the Santa Fe btiilt in here. However, this is all guess work.
