The Fourth of July is rapidly approaching, and the time hog arrived for some understanding in regard to a celebration. The country is settled by a thriving and industrious class of people, and if the preparation-; are piadc our people can meet and celebrate our nation's birth. Let us get together at the Sunday school picnic at the ranch and make the arrangements.

The Herald and Journal, of Ashland, both oppose the proposed removal of the government land oflice from Garden City to Dodge. As yet the Clipper has kept jaum on the subject. We would not give one cent for a newspaper that Is fearful of expressing its convictions on matters in which the people are interested. A removal would entail a heavy expense on the government, and hence we again say that the land oflice is better as it is. Very Interesting and entertaining ar-j uigcuients are being made to celebrate Sunday, June 12.

Mr, Webster Baker, who lives about seven miles southwest of tins place, is in from his contract on the C. K. east of olu water, and commences work this week on a mile contract adjoining town, Mr. Baker reports that all the contractors have been notified to prepare themselves to lay over winter at this place. What may be done in the future we know not, but this seems to be the intention at present.

This means a tremendous boom for Ashland. Clipper. The above article contains information Which we are afraid cannot be bucked up with facts. There is evidently some mistake lurking about the matter, which makes it look very much like it were a boom article, gotten up in a modest way to help our city along. Although wc have not taken the trouble to investigate too matter, we had no trouble whatever in finding mat, as a rule, the Ash-land pcopie concede the truth of the fact that graders will be put to work between that city and Englewood within ten days, and that in all probability their work will be completed belore whiter quarters arc necessary.

In justice to our city, our county and ourselves, we say to the pub-lie that before the first of another year the people of Englewood will mount the cars at this place for "all points ea-t, north and west, via Ashland." Englewood Chief. Here too! While Englewood will only get a brunch of the above named road, the main line is to be run straight west from Ashland through Cash City to Meade Center. The bond question has been settled hi Meade county, arid in order to secure these bonds the road must be put through earlier than is mentioned in the above article. And Cash Gitr'i interests re being looked after. Uenry (j Henley orlando i KOUBti wllUatn 1 trans Jesse 11 uad ail ol Appletuii Kas.
