The Uoyal Arch Masons of this city had a grand time at their lodge last night. About twenty-five Masons of that degree came down from McPherson and brought a candidate with them, and joined our lodge in conferring the seventh deeree upon John Jack ana Frank Broadwell of this city and the gentleman from McPherson The work was conferred in good style and the three gentlemen that were led into the light of new mysteries in that order will always remember that no excellence is obtained without great labor in a Masonic lodge any more than any place else.

The whole affair wound up most pleasantly in a splendid banquet set by the home lodge. The visitors and everybody else had a good time. Dr. Hall at the M. E.

Church. Rev. Dr. Hall, of Great Bend preached two sermons in the M. E.

church in this city last Sunday. A large congregation attended both services and Rev. Hall preached two fairly good sermons. In his younger days Rev. Hall preached able sermons, but there is advancement in preaching as well as everything else and the congregation at Hutchinson being young and progres sive they naturally take to men of advanced ideas which are oftenest found in the younger.

ministers. Sad News. Mr. B. Nussbaum received a telegram yesterday announcing the sad news of his mother's death at Norfolk, Virginia.

The telegram coming too late, Mr. Nussbaum can not go home, but immediately closed the doors of his store. Mrs. A. S. Boyd Died Yesterday at the Family Residence. Mrs.

A. S. Boyd died at 3:10 o'clock yesterday at the family residence, on First avenue east. Mrs. Boyd has been a great sufferer for a long time.

She was a victim to that dread disease, cancer, that knows no such thing as fear or favor when once it places its deadly grasp upon a human being. Mrs. Boyd was operated upon in the city of Topeka at two different times, but all human efforts failed to bring about a cure and until yesterday every thing possible had been done, but death alone relieved the sufferer. The funeral arrangements have not yet been made. Telegrams were sent the boys yesterday, Frank being at Omaha, W.

C. being at Coffey-ville in business, and Clyde at Fort Scott, where he is in the employ of the postal service. Mrs. Boyd was an excellent lady and will be sadly missed. She was a consistent church member and also belonged to some of the social orders in which she took an active part.

Arrangements for the funeral ser-viees will be announced in to-morrow's World. At Langdon. The republicans of Langdon will have an old fashioned meeting tomorrow night. They will be addressed by liev. J.

He has given to the press some of the ablest articles on the silver cjuestion that have appeared this year. He lias made this question a study for years and probably it is not putting it too strong to say that no man in Kansas understands the silver legislation of the conn fry and the attitude of the political parties toward silver better than Mr.

Payne. He is a constant reader, a fluent talker and the republicans and all others that attend the meeting at Langdon to-morrow night, will learn something upon this question as well as upon the tariff question, which are the issues Detore lie country now.
