Carl Telline, fireman, and brother of Engineer Pete Telline, is very sick with malarial fever. Mrs. J. II. Leeman, of Ilartland is visiting in this city the guest of her son-in-law, Dick Payne Ed.

Connel and Jasper Shawl, of Great Bend fame, came down last evening, returning this morning. Mrs. I. A. Love and daughter are vis iting in Lyons to-day, the guest of her daughter, Mrs.

A. J. Stowell. Engineer Dugin is running engine 2S4 during the absence of Engineer Shade, who is visiting in Kansas City. Engine 72 which is in the shops for repairs will soon be ready for the road.

A wreck occured at Wright, Kansas, yesterday evening, which delayed the passenger trains several hours this morning. Quite a number of our Odd Fellows are visiting in Hutchinson to-day, helping to entertain the Souveign Grand Lodge. James Kearney left this morning for Lamed where he will take charge of Walter Saunders' run tor a few days, Walter being somewhat under the weather. The stone side walks will be built along blocks 12 and 13, Main street. A petition to that effect is being circulated and has received nine signitures.

This is a good move and will be heartily commended by everyone. A large and happy gathering occurred at the rooms of Mr. and Mrs. S. R.

Marshall last night. It was occasioned by the desire of those present to welcome the return of Mrs. Marshall who has been absent from the city for the past eleven months. The evening was most pleasautly spent by those present. Ed Xorton returned yesterday raorn-ng from his extended trip to Michigan.

We learn that he more than surprised his many friends in this city by bring ing home a wife. Ed, we hardly thought that ot yon, but neyer-the-less we join hands with the balance pf your nnmerous friends in this city and offer our congratulations. We received a letter this from A. B. Spradly, a well known for mer Nickersonite, who informs us that he is prospering in the west, but at pres ent is sick.

He sends us the following clipping from a newspaper at Ulysses Sheriff Ridneour was in town Wed nesday and appointed and commission ed A. B. Spradley deputy sheriff for this section. Mr. Spradley has served several years in this capacity in eastern Kansas and will, we doubt not, faithfully perform his duties here.

He has ini tiated a reform movement and has the nerve to carry out the order ho has is sued at Cincinnati and Ulysses. Also a fall line of all tne DEMOCRATIC CAUCUS. An Interesting Collection.

In the exhibition recently opened at Havre there is an interesting collection of specimens of poisonous fishes. Some are poisonous when eaten; others are merely venomous. Among the first are many Sparoids, a Tetrodon and many Clupea, which arc abundant near the Cape of Good Hope. In the Japan Sea is found a very peculiar Tetrodon, which is sometimes used as a means of suicide. It brings on sensations like those produced by morphia, and then death.

Another interesting collection in the exhibition is that of a number of Bacteria, and pathogenetic microbes. Y. Post.
