Fairchild, Sec.and Treas, R. A. Davis, President. LG OTT TOWN COMPANti (I ncorp orated, 1887.) OLO OTT now offers special inducements to parties wishing to become bona Ada residents; will also give big inducements to parties starting in business in this city, that is not represented or overdone whether) mercantile, miningjor manufacturing. Mob violence a serious law for any newspaper advocate or attempt to justify, liiie Oliphant was a criminal and he facts in hi case and his admis-ions gave the mub ample evidence' i' a clear case ol guilt, yet, as a pro-edent, the state would have beeii' natter off had the deed not been ne. The tanging of Nat C. Oliphant wasin-tcusable, his hanging in the Capi-jlol'thcsiato was a disgrace and he precedent established and re-" living the support of some of our est papers will bo given in account Kansas has not been ho scene ot lawlessness for years.

Mie has been considered "a law a- idirig state where a Tlunmiervillo rageJy would not havo been enact-d, or a bald knobbcr excused un-ler our law; but let another such in occureme happen and see whal, result will be. -White Cap.s. lourished in Indiana for a' because they received a par-ial endorsement. They became a terror in certain districts in Ohio Tor the same reason, and innocent parties were beaten and shamefully illtreated under a mistaken idea of i ho faiit governing the case, and it would' be the 8atne here, the thirst for blood, for vengence, for fame, for human life, when once is hard to appease, hard to control. W. Fairchild, secy. The Nickerson Argovj is devoting considerable space, hero-of-late in delendingher position on drunkenness and prohibition. It says it is in favor of prohibition, and also says, "we believe that a man who fills himself with thi damnable stuff ect. deserves as much, or more, punishment th the man who sells him whisky or any other intoxicant." Here is an admission that prohibition is a failure, but also an assertion that the Argosy'ja on the popular side, but in favor of having a c'ause annexed prescribing a greater punishment for the prohib bition drunkard than the man who runs the Kansas dive or slum and entices the drunkard in, knowing the weakness of his will and strength of hip appetite.

The Ar. goiy might well be in fav.irof such a clause were we in a license state where ths sale of liquor is legalized, out in Aansas, no Journal, especial ly a prohibition Journal, should advocate a measure of this kind. The man who sells whisky in a prohibition state is a criminal at heart and his nefarious business is practiced in the dens and out-of-the-way places, where only the criminal would bide, there he conducts his illegitimate bjsiness, and Bells his "damnable stuff," and layshis plans for ruining the very persons the law was made to protect. Should he be punished? Oh, no, the Argosy says; net near as heavily as tno poor devil who is lured there and buys. While we are anti-prohibitionists we uo not go as tar as mis proniui-tosy organf?) does; we believe that .1 tr .1...

inal who, while we have our present law, takes chances that only a criminal would take; he is a great criminal, and violates a known law, and does it expecting to receive a prescribed punishment and willing to lie in jail until his fine and costs are remitted. For such men no pity should be wasted, no lenien-ch asked, especially by a prohibitory organ. 72 COMPANY WILL GIVE FREE THE TOWN ASLOCATIOfr For any industry ot material interest totnetown urges correspondence with those who are desirous of engaging3m3businessSor seekingSinVestment COME TO OLCOTT AND GET A HOME. Ner-raska State Journal.

They can't get off such stories that on our agent here. as Weller Foster was over Sunday. Wellcr doesn't believe in the old saying that timothy and clover can't be grown in Kansas. He says the. only reason it don't grow is because, the farmers don't sow it.

He gave us a timothy head 11 inches long and well filled, he says he has as fine a stand of clover as one would wish, to 6ee. We have been asked if Hon. J. N. High-paid his portion of the campaign expenses last fall.

The member of the executive committee trom this place says he did not pay a red, but that Hon. II. M. Wisler paid over $o0. The reason, we suppose; he did not pay anything, he expected to be out of Reno county before the session of the legislature was, over and he would let old Re.o pay for his election.

We further unde.v. stand that Mi. High recefved cial aid from the parties to divide, the county, and then he did not refund the money, but betrayed the very men who put up the money. There may be some pretty rich developments in this matter before another election, as we understa that documentary evidenco is in existence to prove all that is intimated above. Argoty.
