S. J. p. (f Ai The rievna Lumber Co. has just received a new invoice of nice clear tank lumber, such as you will not find in other lumber yards, being the correct width and the proper material to use without waste; this is only handled in connection with the wind mill business.

Stock men, take notice. tf Mr John Andre is still hauling lumber for his barn, his bill will prbably reach $400, by the time he gets through building and every time he comes for more lumber, we see a huge smile play across the features of the manager of the Plevna Lumber Co. Ballard Co, and the extremely low prices, they keep a general stock, almost very- thing from a fish hook up to a threshing machine, and their prices on dry goods can not be duplicated in the city. tf Walter Scott says he has sold at Plev na five wind mills and seven pumps, and only put in three days; that speaks well for our farmers, they are able to buy these things, and Mr. Scott says he lives to make the public happy, his of fice is at the Plevna Lumber yard, and there he will continue to deal out pros perity at the rate of about $3.00 a min ute. Leave the money and your name at the Torch Light office. This offer is crood to old subscribers who pay a year in advance of their or- ginal subscription. Horse-thieves Captured at Bedford In the evening of August ICth two colored boys, calling themselves Henry Collins and Henry Young, came into town riding two nice young horses and offered them for sale for $40.

Our doctor, Mr. Rupin bought the horses under the proposition that they give him a clear title, and cave a note that nobody would cash. Next morning they came back from Stafford, where they tried to sell the note and told him if he would not pay cash right away they would take the horses. This of course he refused, because they could not show a clear title. They tried to take the horses out of the stock yard, where they were put over night, but Claus Felhut, instice of the peace, arrested both or them and put them in the hand3 of Geo.

Hyant and A. D. Sturtz to take them to his office; they were willing to go, but wnile Claus was iasining me gaie, wuc of them broke loose ana tnea 10 gei hold of his revolver, wtiicn was in ms hip pocket. Lnder assistance oi our other citizens, finally they were over powered after a Hard struggle anu uau wrhPTft Ed Ileven oCnCtoM took thPm under his official rna Land St. John, put iron bracelets on their hands and invited both of them to pay him a visit in St.

John. Next morning a Mr. Snider of Sterling arrived and claimed the horses as his property. Soldier's Reunion. There will be a reunion of the 21st Illinois, (Grant old regiment) some time in the last part of September.

Hansel Abbott says he dont claim to have a "Congress head'' but when it comes to figuring a lumber bill, his name largely Miss Josie Moodie, living four miles south of town, has been dangerously ill for the last ten days, but we are pleased hear that she is better. What has become of the new church building? That part of the program seems neglected to a certain extent.

Please rise and explain, Bro. Hull. Why don't some enterprising stock man ship us a few car loads of stock hogs? We will have millions of bushels of corn and but few hogs in the country. The fall term of school will begin at this place on Monday, Sept. 3.

Prof. Young has moved his family to Plevna and occupies the property of Wm. Cu-sic. Corn! corn! worlds of corn, Plevna township never had a better corn crop the largest acreage, the best yield. Our corn will average sixty bushels per, acre.

Corn in the vicinity looks uncommon fine, though the dry weather and hot winds have been getting in their best work. And the hay crop was never better. The Plevna Lumber Co. have just re: ceived a car load of choice fencing that they will sell way down for cash, also a fresh invoice of paints, oil and brushes, call and get prices. tf W.

Q. Elliot, of Sterling, was in this vicinity one day last week and we learn that he boueht some two or three hun dred tons of hay from G. W. Yeager, which he intends to press for the use of Uncle Sam's mules. Car load after car load of hay almost without number is being shipped from Plevna.

We have the best wild hay and in the state and our hay demands the highest market price, being the ex tra fine quality. We regret to learn that in many parts of the state the drouth has greatly in iured the corn crop, we think however that it is only the hard black land that has failed, the sandy land seems to be coming to the front. Mr. II. Bebee a former resident of this place, who has been spending the summer at Hutchinson, a little town on the Arkansas river about 24 miles east of Plevna, has made arrangements to come to Plevna to live.

Par ties in other and less favored localities are wanting to trade for land here, some offering a quarter section for an eiarhtv tract here, others wanting to buy, etc. There seems to be grief in the Metho dist camp, because the Rev. Mr. Bodkin allowed his name to be used as a candi date on the Prohibition tieket for Gov ernor. Mr.

Bodkin is quite a favorite among the people of this vicinity and will no doubt make a good showing in the cornlnsr election, and if some of the sore headed presiding elders, who per sist in making themselves a laughing stock, bv writing open letters, about the disipline and dividing the M. church and ect had received the tribute of honor paid to Mr. Bodkin, it is ou? belief they would h.ave accepted, a Oin.c day.
