On Oct. 15, 1887, to Mr. and Mrs. Wilber Dotey, a girl baby, lie-ported by Dr. D.

A. Clowes. Mr. Rakestraw and daughters, Miss Ollie and Cora, of Sterliing, were visiting Mrs. M.

II. Potter this week. W. R. Gray, secretary of the Turon Town was in the city Friday on business connected with the new hotel.

We believe in the largely increasing class of politicians who desire to elect good men to office, regaruless of party ties. What's the matter with the railroads? The west bound train on the Rock Island is frequently one or two hours late. The Adelaide Randall opera troupe, enroute from McPherson to Kingman, took dinner at the Turon house on Friday last. Upwards of twenty teams were upon our streets at one time last Saturday. This speaks well for business at this time of the year.

If you are in need of Job work of any GRAG Who will Bargains GENTS' FURNISHING- GOODS, i an BOOTS and NEXT A States warrant was yesterday serv ed on Doctor J. S. Dickason, H. II Carr and Orlo Jenks, charging them with selling intoxicating liquors without a permit from the probate judge. Just as wo go to press certain facts have come to our knowledge that con viuce us that the motives that prompted the indictment was not the desire to further the cause of temperance, but, prompted by an envious spirit, its instigators really desire to injure our town and its citizens.

That they wish to make it a sectional Issue it is evident from the fact that to their knowledge, within a few miles of this town, a regular joint has been in active operation for months past. It these gentlemen who furnish the evidence upon which this indictment is issued are really desirous of aiding the tem-ance cause, why not indict its proprietor? The evidence to convict him is abundant. But nol that would not serve their purpose, for it would not injure Turon or its citizens. For the past few weeks it has been our object to allay all sectionalism and promote a spirit of harmony between the two towns, and only last week we expressed our desiro publicly to follow in that course, but now comes a bomb shell into the camp that startles us, that tells us it is useless to try and harmonize such elements, useless to be conservative, the gauntlet of defiance has been thrown at our feet. We do not like war; we would avoid it as long as possible, but we do not propose to sit calmly by when we feel confident that our citizens are being prosecuted from envious and malicious motives.

It is nearing election time. Have you made up your ticket? It is important that you should begin to inquire as to the qualifications of the candidates. No doubt your favorite ticket has one or more names with which you are not familiar, or that you do not care to help into office; all such persons should have your careful consideration, and should they prove worthy give them the benefit of your vote. Smiley, preached last Sunday morning to a rather small audience in the North Turon Hall. But candidly, we believe the discourse, able as it was, was only half appreciated from the fact that the building, though admirably adapted to the wants of the community, being large and well lighted and well seated, was yet so cold as to be really uncomfortable.
