Dfxker. The Rustler. THURSDAY, DECKMBER 23.1886. Johnson Wagstaff, an old acquaintance of ours, was in town last Sunday. He is talking of building a hotel here, 30x42, two stories.

A party of Rock Island surveyors were in town Tuesday. O. P. Blossom went to Kingman Saturday and returned Sunday. If you want to sell your farm leave it with D.

Carr made a trip to Hutchinson last week. Coal delivered to any part of town at low price for cash by W. II. Hickman. If you know an item of news drop in And Must Toe Sold.

Our Reasons: R. S. Smedley's hired hand left him the other monring. Cause; hired hand thought colored persons should be treated like dogs, while Smedley supposed they were human beings and entitled to be treated as such. The hired man is now hunting an employer with more bigotry and superstition and consequently less sense than the one he left.

The Bulgarians are said to be looking to America for a prince. Bets are offered that C. J. Jones, of Finney county, will be in Bulgaria inside of six months. Atchison Champion, How would II.

Mr. Golding and Miss Molly Eyans were married last week and erenow enjoying their honeymoon. May peaco and plenty be theirs to enjov through life.

Our lyceura is well attended and a good interest taken. We meet on Tuesday evenings. Question for Tuesday, the 21st, "Resolved that, foreign imi-gration should be stopped." Turon people are invited to lend a helping hand. Eugene Cerless teaches our school and tries to make things lively. He has a spelling school every two weeks.

We are to have a Christmas picnic dinner on Christmas day, on which occasion there Mill be several speeches, select reading, essays and declamations, interspersed with song. A cordial invitation is extended to all to come and bring well filled baskets, and especially the Rustler men are invited to come. J. C. II.

From Our Traveling Correspondent. Ed. Rustler: One of the finest sections of country we have visited lately lies in the vicinity of Williamsport and around Silver-ton post-office. Fine farms, good stock and on every hand the evidence of the thrift and enterprise of those who inhabit this beautiful prairie. We of course cannot mention many names in a brief sketch, but recall the following: Mr.

II. C. Hand is in the loan and real estate business. He has only been in Pratt county a few years and commenced with a small capital, but with energy, pluck and a rustling capacity has made a financial success. He owns the town site on the new road near Williamsport and parties wishing town property would do well to give him a call.

Of course be subscribed for the Rustler. B. F. Mauk came to this country from Pennsylvania and has lived in the county seven years. He is an example of what a man can do here without means.

After paying land office fees he had no money left, but now owns as fine a quarter section as there is in the township and has a good house and barn, 20 bead of cattle, raises good crops and is in a fair way to become independent. Like all wide-awake larni-ers, he takes the Rustlek. 1st. We will, after January 1st, make Groceries, Boots and Shoes and Hardware a specialty. 2nd.

Our room will not permit the carrying of all our lines of goods. 3rd. Turon needs a Hardware Stock and We are getting it, and will furnish the goods in all its branches. He reports them doing well. Saratoga and Pratt Center are both accusing the other of bad faith in the attempted settlement of their difficulties. As a result there is not likely to be any settlement.

D. M. Thornley has on hand now a stock of the "Reliable Western Cottage Organs." If you want music that is music call and see him. He refers you to M. II.

Potter and others. We have been informed that a three story building, 24x80, will soon be erected on the corner of Main and Second avenue. At the present time we have no reliable information that it will be built. The Pratt Center and Cullison papers are heaping all manner of abuse on the M. A.

company. It will have no effect on any sensible person, however, as it is too plainly a case of "sour grapes." Read Connor Co's "ad" in this issue. They have anything you want in their line hardware, stoves, furniture and harness. You will find it to your interest to give them a call before purchasing elsewhere. Trof.

Doling closed a very successful term with his singing class last Friday night. His pupils speak in high terms of his methods and ability. His pupils are talking of trying to secure his services to teach another term. E. N.

Haag, editor of the Norwich News, was in town Sunday. He was looking after his property interests here and seemed highly pleased with the town and with his investments here, which he had never seen before. E. M. Miller and Ralph Stewart are now under arrest for the attempted bank robbery at Sylvia.

A preliminary trial was to be held yesterday, but we have not heard the result. The opinion Beems to prevail at Sylvia that there are more than two connected with the matter and other arrests may follow. The Interior-IIerald says they receive the Wichita and Topeka dailies about half the time one day old. We do not see anything about that to complain of under the present administration. Half the time we do not get our Wichita and Kansas City dailies for two days after they are due.

It is one of the beauties of reform in the railway mail Bervice. The Lerado folks can hardly contain themselves. A party of Rock Island surveyors stopped there one night, and they have been walking on air ever since. The road ill be located through Turon in a Bhort time and then they can take the boom in out of the cold. As this is the first railroad surveyors they ever saw we presume they are excusable for getting a little wild.

A. a few miles from Silverton. He came from California three years ago. He has some fine stock and is getting his farm improved and in good shape. He is a model farmer, and in future will read the Rustler.

Hammond is in Kingman called there by sickness in her sister's family. M. A. bonds were defeated in Banner township, Pratt county, last Saturday. The hack lines that are running to the will have to hunt another job in a day or two.

Maj. Lowe, of the Rock Island railroad, was in Haynesville township a few days this week. Haynesville township, Pratt county, votes on the Rock Island bond proposition next Monday. Two hundred overcoats and one hundred and fifty comforts to be closed out at cost, at J. II.

Scott's. Leroy Ellis, of Atchison, was in town last Friday. He had been out to Iuka and was returning home. If you want a good pocket knife, ra- zor, brush, strop or shaving mug you will find them at Dickason's. B.

B. Wilson, of Sylvia, was in town Tuesday. He says he will have a lumber yard here in a short time. Now is the time for investments here. In a short time property will be worth double the present values.

Grading is progressing rapiply on the Iuka branch and if the weather is favorable it will not be many days before it will be completed. F. Fetherhoff, of Sego, made us a call last Tuesday. Meat Market. All kinds of FRESH MEAT. Fish and Game in Season. to-day, and a few hours track laying will land the iron horse within the city limits. It will require between one-half and three-fourth 8 of a mile of track to reach the city limits.

We are very modest but we wish to remark that for late news the Rustler is the leading paper in this part of the country. Although we were away from railroad and telegraph we gave the President's message in full to our readers Dec. 9. It was sent to congress on the 6th. The Daily News, of Hutchinson, only gave it the evening before we did and the Arlington Enterprise published it the 17tb, eight days afterward.

As to the other papers in this vicinity they haven't given any evidence yet that they know congress has convened. Moral: If you want late news subscribe for the Rustler.
