In Franklin county complaint is made that wheat looks very poorly. The late rains about Seneca have been a little too copious for listed corn. A great many farmers in Rice county have put in heavy acreages to corn this year. In Anderson county the outlook for a good oats and wheat crop is unusually brilliant. According to the Garden City Sentinel the crop prospects of western Kansas are good.

A traveling slight-of-band man visited an Indian encampment near Lewis-ton, Idaho, the other day. Seeing a small dog, he asked how much they would take for him. The Buffalo park, St. John, county Pioneer states that western Kansas never had such a favorable crop the present.

The Marion Record states that a new pest in the form of a black bug half as large as a cricket has been discovered doing damage in a corn field east of town. The new enemy to Kansas agriculture burrows into the heart of the young stalk near the root and saps the life out of it. Over in Comanche county a lot of finely preserved oyster shells, and what is claimed to be a section of a ship's mast have been found. The latter is petrified and has an iron band around one end. The ancient Romans may have ridden well we are not old enough to speak from actual observation, acd we concede that they were when the coliseum had its day but if they rode any better and faster, any finer, any braver, any more graceful than the Doris fc Colvin risers do, they certainly rode at such a pace and in such a way that the most captious critic praise without stint.
