J0 P1TE1T JYO PJIf. Stafford County Sabbath TPWMPPPPHl J. W. Tyrrell went to Sterling this week to bring home a load of goods from the railroad. The building at Bedford, the new point for county seat on side of the hills, is about completed, and Grant Son are removing their stock of goods to that place.

A portion of the river bridge at Hutchinson gave way this week, so that teams could not cross. A gang of men were put to work repairing it, Jand it is expected that teams can cross in a few days. Elder Mitchel," late greenback candidate for congress, when canvassing this county said Moses Tyler had more sense than his brother greenbacker, Joseph Cooper. Bless the old elder, he would have been safe in saying that of any colored man in the county. Some of the republicans who worked so zealously last winter to have the party organized on fair square principles, were heart and hand in the combination effected to thwart the will of the people of the party in convention last Saturday.

Where is the consistency Below we give the result of the ring convention: Clerk, Frank, Cox; treasurer, C. B. Biddle, of York; sheriff, G. A. Dunn, of Jiincoln; register, of deeds, S.

H. Tedford, of Fairview; surveyor, H. L. Fitch, present incumbent, and coroner, Dr. I.

II. Dix, of Clear Creek, It was too much for honest men to stand, the way the ticket for the convention last Saturday was "cut arid dried." Any candidate who will go into such a combination ought to be beaten, and we believe the people will render a verdict against all such on the 8th of November. DR. CROOK'S Curc3 Thousands Yearly. Sam Helm returned from Sterling Tuesday evening, where he has been at work for a few weeks. Another splendid rain fell this week, putting the ground in fine condition for wheat and fall pasture. E. A. Goodwin, of Fairview township, avored us with a call Monday and sub scribed for the Herald.

A man who will advocate a mass con vention will lead a ring or mislead the people, if possible, and sell them out to a ring.5 Hereafter you will find Grant Son at Bedford with a full stock of merchandise which they will sell at bottom prices for cash. Rev. D. S. Henninger, presiding elder of Rev Regel's church, preached a very interesting sermon at this place last Sunday evening.

Lee Jolley, Dr. Bulow, Ren Vickers and Chas. Bristol went hunting on Mon day and took in that heavy shower of rain, and a few ducks. Frank Parker, who has been quite sick of a fever for several days, is, we are glad to learn, getting along nicely and we hope will be out soon. Theo.

L. Kerr has returned from St. Louis, where he bought a press for the Bedford Pilot, the new paper, which he expects to issue about the 20th inst. A Mr. Minty, of Hutchinson, passed through here Tuesday and reported that he saw our modest P.

M. at that city Sunday, visiting a young lady. It is not surprising. Joseph Cooper's friends urged him to become a candidate for commissioner, but all deserted him except old Joe Cooper. Too bad And he the only competent candidate? James Allison's sons, who'have been at work over in Missouri, purchased a horse for him and sent it home by Mr.

Tipton. Mr. Allison is a worthy citizen and we are glad to learn that he is again provided with a team. C. W.

Tipton and family, John Sar gent and family and the family of Silas Allison returned from Missouri this week Mr. Allison will return toward spring. We welcome our old friends back to this part of Sunny Kansas. Thc weather to-day, as we go to press at noon, is cloudy and a very cold rain is falling. It has been so cold that we have been compelled to have fire in our office for two or three days.

The St. John ring, through J. Tous- ley, got the legislature to do what the ring claims the people of this county hadn't sense enough to do authorize the commissioners to issue bonds on the county. But the officers must have par for their scrip because it cost so much to run a campaign, you know. It's a good thing for a man who is get ting $1,000 a year for filling a county office, to purchase supplies of books and have the county pay 25 per cent, more for them than the same can be bought in the open market.

Does the 25 per cent, go into a campaign fund? It don't take long to raise $20Qi that way Mr. Ed. Dunaway, accompanied by Mr. Dave Thompson, were in Stafford on last Wednesday. Mr.

Dunaway is trav eling for a St Louis dry goods house and called at this place to make the acquaintance of our merchants and to see J. L. Jolley, who is an old acquaintance. Mr. D.

Seems to be a very clever gentle man and we- bespeak for him a good trade with our merchants. The Sabbath school celebration at Lees- burg last Friday was a most enjoyable occasion. A large crowd assembled, and the day being fair all seemed perfectly happy. Hon. J.

C. Strang delivered a very able address. The various Sabbath schools performed their parts with great credit. The Stafford band did nobly and all went merry as a marriage feast. All join in commending the good people of Leesburg for their hospitality.

The The directors of the association pres ent at the meeting Tuesday decided to hold the exhibition in Stafford, on account of lack of buildings and sheds, and also water privileges for stock and peo ple, having no regular fair grounds. The directors will meet again to-morrow morning to make further arrangements. A Parody. Who killed Cox Robin? said the Dunn, my back action gun, I killed Cox Robin." Hoole be the next?
