Happy New Year to all. Errett Geeslin spent Christmas at Arkansas City. Ezra Troutman was a Wellington visitor yesterday. A. J.

Barker, who has been very sick, is reported some better. Heut Geeslin was up from Hunnewell and spent Sunday at home. Mrs. John Smith visited a few days this week with her sister at Caldwell. Mr.

Chester Barber spent a few days this week with his uncle Mr. Sam Barber. Mr. and Mrs. Will Harris, of Arkansas City, spent Christmas with relatives here.

The next number of the lecture course. Italian Boys," will be here January 18 Mrs. David Geeslin visited her daughter, Mrs. Payne and family at Blackwell this week. Miss Nettie Myres spent a few days this week with Laura Barber and Gertrude Benjamin Master Chester Herriford, of Wichita, is here on a visit to his sister, Mrs.

S. Hamblet entertained her Sunday school class yesterday afternoon at her home west of town Of course they had a fine time. Arch Lamb, bridge inspector on the Frisco system, with headquarters at Neodesha, Kansas, was bere this week on a visit to his uncle, Arch Foy. Thomas Fleming this week sold to M. R.

Wolffrum, of Eddy, and Mrs. F. D. Atkinson and son Jack of Colorado Springs, are spending the holidays with their parents, Mr. and Mrs.

Harl Gile's little girl, Tempest, is very sick with pneumonia, but 1s improving. E. Winter of Higginsville, spent a few days here this week visiting at the home of F. H. Niehuss.

Miss Gerty Benjamin will leave Mouday for Arkansas City where she will visit Mrs. Katie Clari for a few days. Hon. J. A.

Jeffries is on the pro gram for a talk on "Assessment and Taxation," at the Farmers' Institute at Rome today. Mr. and Mrs. L. B.

Smith's little daughter, Gladys, is very sick with pneumonia fever. As we go to press she is some better. A merciful man will be merciful to his beast. Proctor has full line of horse blankets and can suit you in style and price. Go and see them.

Rachel and Florence Musgrove accompanied their cousin, Miss Grace Musgrove, who teaches the Altha school, to Lawreuce, to visit for a couple of weeks. Have you bought that heater? Cary, of Springfield, Ill.

Geo. and Ed Owen of Arkansas City are spending the week with their parents Mr. and Mrs, Geo. Hoover. Mr.

and Mrs. Clarence Johnson, of are here visiting their sister, Mrs. Neal Pickett. Frank Kendrick left Thursday to be gone two weeks visiting vear Lamont, Okla. Henry Kincade and wife were visiting in Arkansas City Thursday.

Elbert Leland, brother of H. and wife of Ontario Canada, are visiting H. S. .0 WHIZZ. The lecture on prison life to be given in the hall this evening, Dec.

For particulars call on agent. FINE CONCERT. The band concert at the ball Wednesday evening was well attended, considering that there was a protracted meeting at one of the churches. The concert was very fine and the audience was more than pleased. The program was a splendid one and was well rendered.

Those who heard it will be glad to have the band give another concert soon. PRISON LIFE. There will be an illustrated lectare at Ryland's hall this evening, Dec. 28, on prison life, by Ex-Officer Black, showing you the exact life of con viets in the Kansas state penitentiary. What they have to eat, how they are punished, etc.

Pictures of the crib and dungeon, ete, are thrown on the screen. A vivid description of a convict funeral. Admission 25c, children under 12 years 10c. Christmas at School. The pupils of our schools enjoyed Christmas in a most ful way this year.

All the rooms received a nice treat from their teachers, and each teacher received a present from their pupils. In the primary and intermediate rooms a splendid Christmas program was rendered, and prettily decorated trees, from which each child received a present, gladdened the hearts of the pupils. A number of visitors were present. CHRISTMAS EXERCISES. The Christmas exercises at the Methodist and Christian churches were well attended and greatly enjoyed by all.

Both churches were handsomely decorated and had lovely trees loaded with presents. The music, recitations, were all good, showing faithful and patient drilling upon the part of those who bad the work in charge. Greetings were recieved at both churches from the Baptist Sunday school, which had no exercises because of the revival. RESOLUTIONS. Whereas, it has pleased Al- mighty God in his wise providence to remove from our midst Bra.

Watson Lantz, Therefore be it resolved, that we bow in humble submission to his will knowing that he doeth all things well, that the lodge loses a worthy and devoted brother, his family a kind and loving husband and father, the comunity an honarable and upright citizen. Be it further resolved, that the lodge room be draped in mourning fos a period of 90 days, that a copy of these resolutions be spread upon the reeords of the lodge, that a copy be furnished his sorrowing family and a copy furnished to the South Haven NEW ERA for publication. Many were made happy Christmas. The entertainment Christmas eve was a success. Everything was neatly arranged. The tree was a beautiful one. Barney Flick and family, John Flick and family and Walter Flick ate dinner at Tom Davis' Xmas.

Mr. and Mrs. Weekley of Portland attended the entertainment at Lone Star Christmas eve. We wish everybody a happy New Year. Italian Boys, January 18th.
