Mott familv. formerly of Haven, will be interested in a letter received recently bv the Journal from Mr. Mott, giving news of the family. Frank was Missouri Pacific agent here for MADE A FINE SHOWING Haven High School made a great showing in basket ball last week. The first team went to Lawrence to play in the State Tournament and played clear into the fourth round, the round just before the semi-finals, and the second team went over to Partridge to play in the Partridge Invitation Tournament for Reno County High School teams, and won the championship cup.

Our first team in charge of Coach Glasgow arrived in Lawrence last Thursday afternoon, where they were met by a committee and taken to the rooms reserved for them. Then they made their arrangements for their first game that night. They met the Goodland team in the first round, the team which had traveled the farthest of all teams there to play in the tournament. Goodland is the county seat of Sherman County, in the western edge of the state, and that team certainly made a long trip to get put out of the tournament in the first round. The Goodland game simply proved a good work-out for the team.

The western Kansas lads were a fine bunch of boys but they were not in the class of the stronger teams at all. Haven's victory of 55 to 15 over them was the biggest margin of points made in any game played during the entire tournament, so that was one honor accredited to our team. In this game Stade made 12 field goals, llussel Hiett 8, Henderson 3 and Iliett 3. Gene and Duane each played half the game at center. Stade caged 3 out of 6 tries for free throws.

The fact that not a personal foul was called on Haven in this contest shows several years and a valued mem- er of the community. He and his family took a great interest in many community enterprises and had hosts of friends here. Another of those hilarious Harold Lloyd comedies to start the show. In the second round Haven was scheduled to meet Bancroft, a team from the northeastern part of the state, Friday morning. Bancroft had not put in an appearance, but it was necessary for our team to suit up, go on the court at the appointed time and make a score.

The referee blew his whistle and tossed up the ball. Jimmy batted it away from an imaginary opponent over to one of our forwards, and it was passed right back to Jimmy as he slid towards the goal. He looped it through the basket and the referee declared Haven the victor over Bancroft by a score of 2 to 0. The real test of Haven's possibilities came then, in the next round. Our lads played Arkansas City, one of the strongest of the Arkansas Valley League teams, at 7:00 o'clock Friday evening.

And this was a real game. In the first half Arkansas City lead all the way. At one time they were 6 points ahead of Haven, hut our lads closed up the gap and the score stood 19 to 17 in the opponent's favor at the end of the half. Our team came back strong in the second half and soon managed to tie and then to pass the Ark City squad. Our biggest lead was a margin of three points, but from that lime on Haven was always ahead by from one to three points until the close of the game, the contest ending 32 to 29 in our favor.
