tf Miss Caddie Bartlett was married to L. H. Judson, formerly of Kansas, on the 9th of February, and is much pleased with her new home in Washington. Mr. and Mrs.

Alex Jackson went to Stockton on a visit this week. Alex expects to begin an engagement with his uncle Frank at that place in a few weeks. Aristo paper is used by Mrs. DeLay the Photographer who will open the Gallery in the Braund building on the I4th inst. Samples of work will be submitted.

The Young People's Christian Union of Mt. Carmel, Jewell county have quite a library, and have just had tickets printed at this office to mark their books. A good library in any community is a great benefit to the youth. Rain Again More rain began falling last Saturday early and continued all day and night, winding up on Sunday with slushy snow. Some of the farmers say that a good crop of wheat is insured without any more moisture- The Ladies' Society of the M.

E. Church will do plain sewing at the residences of those who desire their ser vices, at 10 cts. per member. We, will sew from 2 to 5 p.m. each Tuesday of our regular meeting; notice may be left with any member of the society Mrs.

She solicits your patronage and guarantees satisfaction. Mr. Geo. Buell, a former resident of this locality, but who now makes his home at Mountain Lake, arrived Monday from Logran county.

Kansas, where he has a farm and which he went to inspect. He found everything in a prosperous condition in western Kansas and the prospects very encouraging for bountiful crops. Mr. Buell returns this week to his Minnesota home; he reports Miss Cora Torrey and Glen and Elsie Scrafford in excellent health and pleased with their home. Mr.

James Slaven is enroute from the Indian Territory, where he abided a year or so, and will arrive this week His wife and family preceded him by train some six weeks ago and are loca ted on the farm he recently bought of J. P. Brown. Mr. Slavin has an abid ing faith in Kansas soil; he already owns some five hundred acres and the neighbors are fearful that he will gobble up all the adjoining farms in that valley.

It is a good time now to fasten onto Kansas farms properly before the opportunities are all gone. The occupants of the U. B. parson age were again agreeably surprised on Thursday evening by a company of friends filing in and depositing canned fruit and other edibles in the arms of the astonished preacher. Some seemed to groan under their load as they sought a place to lay their goodly burden down But this was only the prelude of anoth er Dleasant surpriee.

It being the 51st A birthday of Elder Poulton his many friends here took the occasion of show ins how highly he is esteemed among them by presenting him with a hand some fountain pen. Those present will not sooa forget the tender chord that vibrated during the evening. I never heard the Elder say so little yet speak so much. Chidestek, Sup't, Ordinance No. 81. Published March 10 1892. In Relation to Poultry Running at Large. Be it ordained by the Mayor and Councilmen of the city of Cawker City, Kansas.

Sec. 1. That no person shall keep Geese, Turkeys, Ducks, Chickens, or other fowls in the city of Cawker City in violation of the following regulations: The owner, keeper orharborer of any fowls as above set forth shall keep said fowls on his or her premises. Sec. 2.

It shall be unlawful for any person to permit his or her fowls to run at large in any public place, or on the premises of another in the city of Cawker City. Sec. 3. Any person owning, keeping or harboring any fowls within the corporate limits of the city of Cawker City in violation of the provisions of this ordinance shall upon conviction thereof, in the police court of said city, be considered guilty of a misdemeanor and be s-abjeci to a fine of not less than One dollar nor more than Five dollars, or to imprisonment not exceeding thirty days until such fine is paid. Sec.

4. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force from and after its publication once in the Public Record of Cawker City. Attest. H. At Carleton J.

G. Mc Clun, Acting Mayor City Clerk. Wolf Hunt. A wolf hunt has been organized to take place next Saturday, March the lines to be formed promptly at 9 o'clock a.m. The territory to be covered takes in three miles east and west of the adjoining corners of Carr, Walnut, Hayes and Pittsburg townships, and four miles north and south of the same point.

The captains on each line to be not more than a mile apart, and the hunters as cjose a their number will allow to keep the lines well closed up. The round-up will be on section 12, Pittsburg township. Form prompt at 9 a.m. and begin to the center. closing in The Wanderer's Return.

R. M. Foster, the Photographer, who was located here for several years and who gave such general satisfaction with his work, will return soon and open up his gallery for a short time only. He is now using the new process which gives an extra fine finish to pictures and even more satisfactory to customers than the former process in which he so successful. If you wunt a hand some, life-like picture call on Foster at his old gallery, whic he will soon re-occupy.

Change of Location. The Palace Meat Market, by L. Ro senblatt, is being moved into the stone building next door east of the Record office, where Mr. Rosenblatt invites the public for a continuance of their pat ronage. He is an experienced Dutcner and keeps constantly on band the choi cest fresh meats beef, veal, and rout ton, also salt meats.

Dressed poultry, and Oysters and Game in season. Re member the new location, one door east of the Record office, Garden Seeds. Fresh, pure garden seeds in bulk or package from the reliable house of Barteldes, the Kansas seed grower at Lawrence, can be found at Buist Dougherty's. Brown of Glen Elder township has sold his farm to James Slaven and will have an auction sale of his implements, stock and household goods next Monday, 14th a notice of which appears elsewhere. Mr. Brown and family expect to start on the 16th. inst. for Portland, Oregon, where several members of his family are now lo cated, he goes for a change of climate on account of bis health.

He has lived in this locality eight years, and in the state since 1855, and regrets that he is obliged to leave, but his physician rec ommends a change. Mr. "Brown is an old soldier and took part in the border warfare that made Kansas a free state, and later in the 8th Kansas under CoL John A. Martin. His neighbors all speak highly of him as a citizen, and the Record joins with them in wishing him prosperity and a return to health.
