Hooker Post in this city Yesterday a Pleasing Affair.

Yesterday was a gala day in the city. The weather was superb, and the an nouncement made a few weeks ago that there was to be a reunion of union veterans under the auspices of the Joe. Hooker post of the Grand Army of the Republic attracted a large number of old soldiers to the city. The music of the life and druni early in the day awoke vivid recdllections of the deeds in which all had and the past made every soldier feel like taking his comrades hands. A large crowd gathered at the Opera house to hear the speakers, of whotH there Were several; Gen.

Taylor and Maj. Lawson of this city and Rev. Clark of Nickerson were aindhg the number. The free dinner given at the Norman building in honor of the reunion was a sumpt-ous affair in every respect and was generously patronized, the ladies striving to please everybody. The uniformed lutocrat on this occasion dispelled jtht tappiness of the loving pair by inform mg them that there were no vacant erths and that they would have ike an ordinary coach. It was tot bad.

Fortunately one sympathizing young man said he could have his berth vhich was an upper, as he didn't care 'or sleepers anyhow. The night grew pace and most of the passengers haC but Hie yotmj; couple manifest 3 i no dii-postiuai to retire, though i. as plain t'sat they were bothered about something.
