six month 50 cente. Strictly in UNION LABEL Speak for It! When you want the head of the house to bring home candies for yourself and the little ones. They all enjoy our Chocolates and home made candy that: is pure, wholesome and delicious, and nature has made the baDies crave for sweets as they do for food, as it is nourishing and healthful when made from pure materials such AS we use. Bring home the box and tickle the family. The Bon-Ton Confectionery and Bakery.

THERE is one place where England deesn't, want any "open door," and that is at Delagoa Bay. IN order to kill the trusts, it is necessary to smash the tariff that protects them and makes them possible. SENATOR Cockrell says thaw a bill for a permanent army of 100,000 shall never pass the Senate white he is in it. How much additional pork and flour has the nation sold in China or elsewhere as a result of the Philippine war? Ir the war tariff were repealed there wouldn't be any surplus to deposit with the City National Bank of New York. THE president will not support Mr.

Quay in his efforts to set aside senatorial precedent. Mac has troubles of his own. SECRETARY Gage and the Standard Oil Bank make almost as good a combination as do Governor Roosevelt and Boss Platt. As was to be expected, the president, having exploited Gen. Wheeler for allies he was worth, i is now ready to get rid of him.

THE American mule seems to be about the only that can do eighteen hours work a day and flourish in South Africa. How many Ohio commissioners who are now out of a job will the president appoint on the new claims commission?" THE state department has austructed its consul by mail to investigate those dour seizures. He will get the letter in about two months. Two more army transports have arrived at San Francisco. In a few days we shall have the usual reports of mismanagement on board of them.

CHAIRMAN Suiloway of the House pension committee, thinks that the government should spend annually double its present appropriation for pensions. IT is the duty of the administration to declare its policy toward the people of the islands which we have acquired. An air of gloomy mystery palls after a while. AND now the Niagara Electrie Company wants a duty of twenty per cent imposed on electricity manufactured in Canada and sent across the border by wire. THE French in Canada are almost in open revolt against the British war in South Africa.

Another call for troops will strain their loyalty to the breaking point. Ir President McKinley wishes the American people to believe that he is hostile to trusts, it would be well for him to choose another campaign manager than Mark Hanna. SENATOR Hanua exclaimed "Pish" when it was suggested to him that Mr. Kohlsaat of the Chicago Times-Herald might take Mr. Gage's place in the Cabinet.

Hanna and Kohlsaat are rival White House nurses. Now that we are discussing hemp, it might be well to ask after those fortunes that certain officials are said to have made by smuggling arms to the rebels in exchange for hemp and tobacco. Or course it was inevitable that Secretary Gage should use the only bank possessed of the necessary bonds. But who warned the "Rockefeller" National to be ready with such a huge stock of bonds? Ir is rather singular that only American goods are stopped by the British at Delagos Bay. Russian, French and German shipments are unmolested.

Is it possible that England knows that we will not object? Ir might be as well to own at once that Mesars Alger, Foraker, Kohlsaat and others wrote the constitution of the United States and the declaration of in dependence well as the St. Louis gold plank. AN Austrian admiral has been toasting the "British victories in South Africa" amid great applause from the British naval officers. He didn't specify whether it was Methuen, Gatacre or Buller that he wished to honor. IT would be hard lines if President McKinley should retire First Assistant Postmaster General Heath as an offensive partisan for accepting a berth on the re publican national committee, during the next campaign.

UNLEES the British win some victories before parliament meets, it 18 conceded that the ministry will tall, If such a thing were done in this country it would be denounced as rank treason and the doers would be consigned to the block. ONE of the Montana legislators, who confessed under oath that he was bribed to yote for Clark for the Senate, has now confessed that he was really bribed by the other side to confess. Confessions como cheap in Montana. THE infamous "Klondike" at Leavenworth is being wiped out. A nutber of the tough places were raided and the proprietors arrested.

Most of the are closed and the owners are hiding. Governor Stanley is redeeming his promise. -News. If the News has such evidence we suggest that it produce it before Mr. McPhal, the republican who in a letter to the State Journal a few days ago, declared that fifteen out of the twenty Klondike saloons were wide open and in full force, robbing the old soldiers and offers $1,000 reward to any one who will disprove his statements.

THAT queer things occur in politics everybody knows, but nobody ever expected to see republican members of Congress trying to get democratic members to assist them in resisting what they call an underhanded attack on the protective tariff system by the republican administration. Yet that is precisely what is being done. Republicans representing sections which produce articles affected by the several reciprocity treatnegotiated under the Dingley tariff law which require the approval of the House as well as the ratification of the Senate are trying to get democrats to help them defeat the treaties. Brave Men Fall Victims to stomach, liver and kidney troubles as well as women, and all feel the results in loss of appetite, poisons in the blood, backache, nervousness, head ache and tired, listless, run-down feeling But there's no need to feel like that. Kidney trouble preys upon the mind, discourages and lessens ambition; beauty, vigor and cheerfulness soon disappear when the kidneys are out of order or diseased. Kidney trouble has become SO prevalent that it is not uncommon for a child to be born 2 afflicted with weak kidneys. If the child urinates too often, if the urine scalds the flesh or if, when the child reaches an age when it should be able to control the passage, it is yet afflicted with bed-wetting, depend upon it.

the cause of the difficulty is kidney trouble, and the first step should be towards the treatment of these important organs. This unpleasant trouble is due to a diseased condition of the kidneys and bladder and not to a habit as most people, suppose. well as men are made miserable with kidney and bladder trouble, and both need the same great remedy. E. Sidlinger the druggist. There was a small mad dog scare in town last Monday night. A stray canine was seen to be acting queerly and a policeman was called who shot him. It is uncertain whether he was really mad or only poisoned, but anybow he is dead now, as some six or eight bundred other dogs in this town should be.

As the law now stands it appears that dog taxes are only collected once a year, the first of May, and there must now be about the above number of dogs born since then.
