Ore of our merchant princes got tickets of admission to the Mattie Vickers entertainment for a faithful clerk and his best girl and then attended the show hiniself to see that the clerk had a good He contributed a rerjoari every once in a while to keep conversation going and to prevent the young man from feeling bashful and it was an inspiriting and joyous sight to witness him between such efforts, slyly and delightedly calling the attention of those around him to the unconstrained, unfettered and unsophisticated merriment ot the young couple he was striving so hard to make happy. The gushing glee of the young couple and the paternal pleasure of the merchant prince added greatly to the evemn entertainment. S'S A party of small boys got in behind Fred Hyde's yesterday evening to have a little fun in the way of a right with clods, potatoes and other missiles. They probably meant no harm and only intended to have a good time, but some of them got to throwing stones as well as potatoes and one of them made a wild throw and hit a little boy named Johnson, who was looking on at the sport, in the stomach. The blow doubled him up and for a few minute he could scarcely breath.

His father had one of the boys, who was engaged in the throwing melee, arrested and two more were identified as being concerned in the mischief when the trial of the first one came off. All three were lined a dollar and costs apiece, for violating the ordinance against throwing rocks, bricks and other dangerous missiles and it is hoped that their misfortune will induce' other small boys to avoid committing similar offenses. Yesterday was the twelfth birthday of Clarence llawley and last evening twenty-five or more of his young friends gathered at the residence of his parents on Fourth avenue east, to assist him in celebrating the event. They indulged in merry games until late in the evening and then refreshments, consisting of cakes, nuts, candies, were served and heartily relished. Then came more games, the amusements continuing until ten o'clock, when all returned honle.
