Talbott, OUR WASHINGTON LETTER. Special to the Democbat. Was HN3TOX, D. C. Dec.

'83. Tan President's appointment of i.r. A. A. Wilson to be district marshallinves universal satisfaction, as he is one of the lead-i lg business men here and is liked and rjspected by everyone.

Mr. AVilson was- not a "candidate, and no donbt those who were are somewhat disap-pnntid, but eveiyone is pleased. a he District Dem ici ats regard it as an indication that the President intends to fill District oliices with District men contrary to the usual policy. We have generally been governed by out1 iters, and we haven' liked it. It seems a city of this size should furnish enough good men to fill tlie few loeal offices.

You have of course noticed the Presi- dents facility in himself. I know no man in public life who can put on paper just what he wishes to say as plainly as Mr. Cleveland can. His strle is the perfection of clearness, and Will deal in EASTERN AM) FOREIGN EXCHANGE, Attends to'everything connected with the banking business. Your patronage is.

County Health Officer Sheridan county, Kas. KANSAS. KENNETH, say more than is politic. The President will not use mourning stationary for vice president Hendricks as it is not etiquette to do so. Logan's declination of the Presidency of the senate was entirety unexpected but I think he showed his good sense.

It mutt be a very irksome position and there is hardly anything but the honor to make it acceptable. The President of the Senate has very little of the power that the speal.er of the House has, and his patronage is very limited. The congressional library is packed full and is running over with books. The shelves are crowded, tables full and books are lying in huge piles on the floor. It is a shame that fine a collection should be left in such meagre quarters.

Congress will undoubtedly provide for a new building ere long but it will take several years to erect a suitable one and in the meantime the books will continue to accumulate. Corrected weekly. Sugar granulated, 11 Jb for $1. S.urar, light brown, 13 lb for $1. Coffee roasted.
