He was astonished to see Attica such a largo place. A letter from Miss Boso Ewing and Miss Ella La! ta. says they arrived all right in Oregon. They enjoyed the trip hugely and are well pleased with their location. Dr.

J. W. Elerick has been painting and papering his residence this week. He says he don't profess to be a paper-hanger but defies anyone to beat the job he has just compleicd. New railroads are already being projected for the coming season and it behooves us to build up and improve our town in such a manner as to make it an object for them to call our May.

A good market we must and will have if our people will pull to-gether. A. T. Bragg, the Ellipse Grocer, has received large invoices of new goods this week. His canned goods were purchased before the so' lie can sell you choice canned goods way down.

F. Meranda was called upon one hist week to administer medical aid jn a case that had baffled the skill of several eminent physicians for a number of years. The case in question was that of Thos. Monroe who has been a sufferer from tape-worm and has sought relief by a number of remidiesbut none of them afforded any relief. Dr.

Meranda gave him one dose which effectually removed the worm, which was forty-six feet long. The gentlmen is now as happy as a clam, as is the Dr. over the successful and difficult operation. Officers were elected at the editorial association at Hutchinson, for the ensuing year, Thursday, as follows President R. M.

Mr. Baker's house, about two miles southcrst of town, was burned to the ground Monday morning. It caught from a defective f.ue and but a small portion of the contents were saved. Attica has not outgrown her business neither has the business outgrown At; tica. in a general way, but we must say that there is a very decided shortness in our accommodations for hitching teams. When the bnainess part of the city is crowded with farmers' teams, as is the case many times each week, there is positively not more than half enough hitching posts. This deficiency should be supplyed at once. The seems to be considerable opposition among some of the school patrons over introducing mental arithmetic into the school.

We always do yet, that mental arithmetic is the best mathematical study a student can adopt. It fits the pupil for the higher branches of mathematics and is of great benefit in difficult problems. After a scholar lias once studied it they are not readily persuaded to give it up, The season of the year is approaching when prairie fires may be expected ami our people should be on the lookout. Before the grass has become dry is a good time to protect yourselves by plowing and burning wide fire guards.
