Tribune Pub. Co I Indications are that Kansas farm Lmds will enjoy quite a booni this sprii-ir. not a speculative boom, but one brought on by a stealy influx of men who want good farms fur what they will produce. From all portions of the state comes the same story of land seekers. The fact that the present legislature Ls being run by and in the interrst of the farmers lias drawn the attention of the farming world to our state.

Winona Clipper. By reason of the intrusion of one of the C. K. Another sttaw of evidence in favor of railroads being controlled and operated by the government for the benefit cf the people instead of corporation, or a small number of individuals. There is said to be a superstition among the railroad men that some engines are unlucky. In the late collision on the Rock Island one was the unlucky 436. It is considered to be a "Jonah" and some of the engineers vill not go on her. It Is a veritable man killer.

It killed a man at Stony Island, near Chicago: was the one that went through the bridge at li-mon. and killed engineer McCor-mick. It also killed a farmer near St. Joe and was recently In the wreck that caused the death of engineer Smith. It is reported that this engine has killed fourteen men.

C. Star. From the Litest available statistics we learn that during the year ending June 30, over 2.000 railroad employes were killed in service and over 20,000 were injured. It is a reproach to our civilization that any class of American workmen should, in the pursuit of a necessary and useful avocation, be; subjected to a peril of life and limb as great as that of a soldier in time of war. Of all the laws to benefit and protect our laboring people not one deserves the co-operation of the friends of the laborer more than the following bill recently introduced by Mr.

Flower of New York. A BILL REGULATING RAILWAY APPLIANCES. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America In Congress assembled that all persons and corporations operating any line or lines of railway by steam power in any state or territory of the United States shall, after the first day of November, one thousand eight hundred and nine tv -two. equip all 01 their own engines and freight cars run and used in freight trains, or other trains, in any state ot territory of the TJuited States, with an automatic coupler, the same to couple and uncouple automatically without the necessity of having a person to guide the link, lift the pin by band, or go between the end of the cars, and with automatic air-brakes; and it shall be unlawful after that date to run or operate in any state or territory of the United States any freight cars belonging to such person, or corf ration without having the same equipped with the appliances above mentioned; provided that it shall be lawful in case of accident, or oiher emergency, to temporarily dispense with the use suchr appliances.
