This is Marsh's first compaign as an aspirant for political honors, although some are circulating the report that he was before a Republincan convention for the same office four years ago. This is a mistake, however, as it was his brother, R. B. Handley who was seeking the nomination at that time. It is a matter of regret that Marsh is in the wrong political camp, as it would be a pleasure for the Republican to support him if he was a member of the g.

KEVILO NEW TON, laihfc I iber 25th, 1894, in 2olh to Sept clusive, via Tvandalia Line and The Daily Clarion has passed into the hands of the undersigned, and this evening we present it to the readers with its original heading, "The Daily Republican." There is something about that heading that we like, and our Republican friends will not be long in guessing what that something is. We take our republicanism straight, and need no "clarion" call to proclaim it. Since E. L. Eaton established the paper we have become attached to the "child," and as Mr.

Eaton is called to a field of labor that seems to him to be more promising, we have agreed to assume guardianship over it. and depend upon the business men of Cherry-vale for its nourishment. If it is well fed it will live and grow in strength; if not, it must join the Globe, Torch, Telegram and other daily papers that have registered in the beyond from Cher-ryvale. Its life is in the hands of the citirenship, and its merit will be regulated by the support it receives. "Why don't you run an independent paper?" was asked us last evening by a business man who has fixed religious and political news. There are several reasons why we don't, and here are two or three of them: A newspaper without a fixed purpose is like a man who drifts from one religious creed or one political party to another; it is at sea to all its friends, who are few, and it dies withont knowing where "it is at." We prefer running a paper in the interest of the principles which PROPRIETORS OF it is easy to steal or rin watches from the pocket.
