Mr. returned to Independence to-day. R. S. Turner has given up his position as deputy County Clerk of Elk county, and has returned to Sedan and taken charge of the local page of the Dick is a good and able writer and an old newspaperman, and it is with pleasure we welcome him ln to the fold.

Albln, at Augusta, Kansas. In his salutatory the editor says he advocates Republicanism uecause he believes it Is right, and temperance because he knows it is right. Six years ago Mr. Albln suspended publication of the Augusta Republican for want of necessary support, and wo are happy to learn that he has again -launched out into the business with a more liberal support, though it is not yet what it should be. It was under this gentleman's instructions that the writer served his "devilsliip" in the printing business, and "naturally" we wish him success.

If he holds out at the present gait, be has one of the best papers in that county nnd undoubtedly the best one iu the town of Augusta. As the passenger train was wit hin about two miles of Wellington yesterday, (Sth) the engineer discovered what be supposed to be a gray blanket by the side of the track, but upon coming closer to it he discovered that it was a man. He immediately whistled down brakes, but before the tram could lie stopped the man was struck by the cow catcher and dashed into the gutter. The train was stopped and the man, who gave his name as Eastman, was brought Into the city. He had no friends or acquaintances here, and wns il bout money.

He either had been drinking or was deranged. He said that he did not remember of having left Wellington at nil. lie will most likely recover, Wellington Democrat.
