A. Gupton at her home on Friday Feb. 14. The house was prettily decorated with an abundance of red and white hearts of various sizes and the rooms were brillantly lighted with red and white candles. Sauna of Lenora cried a sale northeast on Monday and came- to Hill City that night. The storm prevented the Hisey sale on Tuesday so Charley spent the day in shaking hands with his many friends here. E. II. Lupton of Iloxie came down Tuesday.

The basket ball game between Stockton and Hill City Wednesday at the hall resulted in a victory for the visitors by a score of 28 to 25. J. Creighton and Mrs. Lydja Hill resulted in a victory for the; two land owners. High School Contest. Last Friday evening the Plain-ville and Hill City High Schools met in a contest at the Opera house in debate, declamation, essay and impersonation.

Misses Maud Mc-Marimie and Alice McGill represented Hill City in debalo while their honorable opponents were Misses Ethel Lemon and Flora Starbuck of Plainville. Thoyouny ladies acquitted themselves with great credit and distinction. The decision by a close margin was k'iv-en to Plainville. Misses Jean Leslie and Madge Thompson competed in declamation and both did well. The decision was given to Miss Thompson.

Paul Lyon, the only young gentleman appearing in the contest competed with Miss Rosamond Bondy in essay. The literary genius of Miss Bondy proved too much for her adversary she coming off an easy victor. In impersonation Miss Verdie Ferrier made the only appearance as Miss Helen Hockersmith, Hill City's representative, was sick and unable to attend. While Miss Ferrier did well Hill City had counted Miss Hockersmith as its formost contestant and without doubt would have carried off the honors in that field and that might have carried the general contest as the result at it was showed a total of 3053 for Hill City as against 3002 for Plainville. died! William Wesley Wray, son of Mr. and Mrs. O. L. Wray, of Mill-brook township died last Saturday evening at o'clock from spinal meningitis having (taken sick on Wednesday paeceding his death.

He was born in Kansas City, Kan, and at the time of his death was 10 years 8 months and 12 days old. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. C. E. Tinker, of Lucas, at the Evergreen school house on Monday afternoon.
