East Galena Hercliant Was Given a Hog us Paper for Merchandise This Afternoon R. R. Preston, who conducts a grocery store on East Seventh street, this afternoon cashed a check for the sum of $14.40, Living $14 in cash and forty ceats worth of merchandise for the worthless paper. The merchant was accosted by cwo gentlemen, who purchased che goods and then presented the check for payment of the purchase, the check being drawn on the Citizens Bank and sighed by "Bunk" Moore. Securing the articles and the remaining sum, $14, due them, the two fellows boarded the first car going east and were seen no more.

Mr. Preston in turn gave the check to S. Ryan, of the Galena mill Elevator for payment for feed purchased of him. Mr. Ryan accepted the paper and at a late hour this afternoon had not presented it at the bank.
