Endowment Assured. This week has been a great week for Southwestern and for Winfield. President Mossman has been making a most energetic and successful campaign over the conference in the iterests of an endowment. Wichita business men have pledged $25,000 outside throughout the conference $45,000 has been secured. Such was the condition when the open campaign was began in Winfield last Monday night to secure $25,000 here.

An enthusiastic meeting was held at Grace M. E. church at which were gathered the people of College Hill. At this meeting $5,000 was raised, $1,000 was given by the Faculty and $500 by ten ministerial students. But the great event was on Tuesday evening.

The trustees, in honor of Governor Hoch, entertained the business men of Winfield at a banquet in Albright's hall. An excellent banquet was followed by speechmaking. W. C. Robinson acted as toastmaster.

The principal address was made by Governor Hoch. He made an enthusiastic speech, dwelling upon the prosperity of Kansas, and holding up Southwestern to the careful consideration of Winfield. He was followed by Rev. A. O.

Ebright upon the Winfield District," Alva J. Graham upon "The Alumni," Mayor J. C. Page upon "The City," Hon. E.

P. Greer upon "The Press," Rev. A. J. Finch upon "The Church." Then was given a delightful harp solo by Miss Messenger, director of the Conservatory of MusiC.

She was heartily encored. Following were toasts by W. H. Somer-mier on "The Commercial Club' Hon. G.

H. Buckman on "The Bar," President F. E. Mossman on "The and C. T.

Franks on "Our Opportunity." The spirit throughout was the $100,000 endowment for Southwestern. President Mossman then asked for subscriptions. A number were not ready to make known the gifts they intend making. $8,000 was raised in a few minutes. In all $13,000 in two evenings in Winfield.

Conditional pledges have been made and the $25,000 will be had before the end of the week. Thus a grand total of $95,000. When this is done our president knows of the remaining $5,000. The fight has been won. Only, however, let it be but the beginning for a much greater endowment for Southwestern..
