Nilks. Heglster. The Future County Seat of Kearney county. A booming town in the center of Kearney county, which offers Karo IndiK-ementa to those winhing to invest in town property, as tlicy can be bought at actual value, The Garden City Sentinel brought out tho Lakiu Advocate lust week bo cause tho Sentinel publiuhod facts in tho county seat contest of Kearney county. Tho Sontinol has horotoforo taken sides iu favor of Lakin, but has become so thoroughly disgiibted with the Lakin frauds that it could not swallow another doso.

If the Sentinel will always let Lakiu and her frauds alone it will gain many friends in Kearney county. It has learned that everything that cmiuatos fnni Lakiu ou tho county scat question is more or loss contaminated with fraud. Is it possiblo that thoso who work iu tho open air at this season of tho -t a A I 1311 shaswssM'tate'SisI OMAHA la situated in the center of Kearney county, ten miles north of the railroad, and directly in the heart of the finest agricultural part of the county. THE PEOPLE Are United on Omaha, and propose to give it their solid support in the coming election for permanent County Seat. THE TIME HOW IS To invest, while lots are Cheap, and the town is young.

When the time for which it Is paid expire, the paper 111 stop, unless ordered continued by the person to whom it is sent. For President, GROVER CLEVELAND, For Vice-President, ALLEN G. TKURMAN, OF OHIO. "He who laughs last laughs best." A Lawrence young man who con ceived the iJoa of testing the hygienic properties of a trroen rnuskinelon doesn't weigh quite as much as he did but he knows more. Judge Abbott's peremptory writ is what gives Lakin a relapse and caus ed the County Clerk and the Conimis sioaers to hide out all this week.

They don't even like to be compelled to do their sworn duty. There will be considerable corn raised in Kearney county this yar fifty per cent more th in last year. And stock feed, such as cane fodder millet and corn fodder, etc, there will no limit to the amount. A colored man who died at Wellington the other day gave as his last testimony that he fully expected to go to heaven, but that he shrank from death at a time when ft nickel would luy the biggest watermelon iu the market. Tuesday night last a number of the young ladies gave a leap year ball.

It was well attended and all enjoy ed themselves in the best of order. When you want a first class bull or anythiag else, put it in the hands of the girls, and yon can bet on success very time. A Dickinson county farmer has sixteen milch cow whose milk he sells to the creamery, realizing $80 cash each month, a monthly average of $5 per head, besides rearing their calves and a large number of swine on the milk after the croam has been separated from it This anyone can do with proper care and management. Who is Cyrus Russell anyhow? Tjil-in P.Ti He is an honest man, but would be I a living curiosity to the editor of the D. He lives about six miles north of Lakin, and it doesn't cost anything to see him.

Como up, Boylan, and ee what you are not acquainted with an honest face. The Deistler brothers took an over landtriptoPr. lt county last week, and returned a few days ago. The boys report dull times all along the road, and say that the crops are no better in the counties through which passed than they are in Kearney ounty. They returned well satisfied to remain here, as tho outlook is bet ter here than it is east.

Some individual, whose ear marks show the brand of Lakin, and signing himself "Watch," seeks, through the columns of the Lakin Advocate of week, to vent his spleen on C. J. Jones, who is a candidate for the leg islature. No doubt but that the wri ter was instrumental in helpiug to steal Jones' scat two years ago, and has moved over into Finney county to assist the same work. But then Lakin don't have a pull at Jones this lull, and cau only assist in helping to defeat him through tho medium of tiio "Lakin Fraud." Bierer fill Not Accept.

The followiug from tho La rued Chronoscope of the Oth instant shows that Mr. Bierer has declined the now sation for senator ou tho democratic ticket: A letter was received yesterday af ternoon by E. W. Jones, of this city, from A. O.

C. Bierer, of Garden City, stating that the latter was compelled to decliuo the nomination- tendered him at Kinsley the 25th of July. Mr Bierer assigned as a reason the fact that he could not spare the time make the campaign. He has a part, set-ship law practice in Garden Cit mid ine oilier members ol the nrm will not consent to have him Lso so much time away from business. A meeting cf tho central committee will bo held in Kinsley in a few days, at which time the vacancy thus f.

rrnol will bo supplied. Garden City Her to! The County Clerk and two of the Comissioners Podge tho Sheriff, And Prevent the Serving of the Papers in the Mandamus Case. CANADA OR "BUST." One day last week a peremptory writ of Mandamus was signod by Judge Abbott, asking tho Comniig sionors to canvass the vote of Kear ney county as returned by the Judges of the different precincts. Tho pa iters were placed in Sheriff Thome's hands to serve on the Commissioners, but as soon as that was done the Commissioners and Clerk hit the road for Topeka. Learning that they were in Topeka, the papers were sent tj tho Sheriff of Shawnee county, but by either natural instinct, or from some other cause, tho fugitives kept track of the papers, and as soon as they arrived in Shawnee county, the renegades hit the road for Lakin, know ing that while the papers were in To peka they could not be scrvod on them iu Lakin.

The papers were sent for, but again the outlaws "wind ed" the object, and on Wednesday, before the papers could bo returned, hit the road for Canada or sjiuo oth er part. Thus it goes with Lakin, anything to defeat justico; anything to avoid the law. Just think of it, two Commissioners and a County Clerk, all appointed by Gov. Martin, fleeing from luotico, dodging the sheriff, hiding from tho mand.itos of the Courts iu order that they may be able to rob the people of their rights. Is it not a pity that the people of this county should be cursed and scourged by such a set of villians, such a set of men who disregard every letter, word and sentence of tho law in order to cany out their damnable outrages on the honest settles of Kearney county? Can they expect to win in thus fight ing the law and tho people? Do they have to be hounded down like bandits before the peaple get their rights? Is it possible that these three crimin al, these three fugitives from itiHtiee.

these threo robbers of tho neonle's rights must be caught and compelled do their duty before the people can perform the functions of office? Is there no other remedy? Yes, thero is a way, and the way has been declared Dy a supreme majority of tho votes of Kearnev countv. and there in nntln'nn- left but for that majority to put their oruer in lorce dv taking control of l6 officcs, will never ro.r. mcv The tieunle will never rest casv or have anv neiu-e as long as these pestiferous outlaws are tuioweu to inhabit our county. Thev want to either rul rr ruin, nml their rule bus already stagnated tho prosperity or our county. They have incited rebelion.

thev have nractiead anarchy, they have tried to adopt monarchical rule, they have violated an uio codes ol American law, and still thev run at larce upr.tliinrr 7 o- burning disgrace to themselves and me settlers of Kearney county and southwestern Kansas. Thev alirmU be corralled. No Man's Land Bill. A dispatch from Washinctnn. bvh: Mr.

Springer to day succeeded in getting his Oklahoma bill before the House. He has lienn en.lp'iv, irinrr In do so for about four months. Every time, thus far, until to day, tho opponents of the measure have been huc cessiui their opnWuu. Owiut? A .1 me small attendance thero was a less formidable opposition than URual. a boon as tno morning nour was ended, Mr.

Springer, Chairman of the Committee ou Territories, culled up tho Oklahoma hill. Mr man Chairman of tho Public Land Com mittoc, at once iuterposod ith a proposition to take up tho "No Min's Land" bill, of which he is the thamd ion in the House. The two bill are in a measure ant-iconiKti. TliefiLl.i. homa bill provides far the formation oi a new territory out of those por uons oi tho Indian Territory known as Oklahoma, the AhuwIi.ia Cheyenne Reservation, tho Cherokee strip and Man's Land.

Holinan's diu merely extends the laws of the I nited States over No Man's Laud, and creates a new land district, com prisiuir the territorv within the limit ot No Man's Laud and four adjoining counties oi Kansas, Ine 2o Mans Land bill has already passed the Senate. Mr. Holmau calculated that its passage through the House would put ena to Indian leintJuUon for this Congress at least, and thus prevent the consideration of the Okla noma mil. i be mil now remains on the calendar as unfinished business It may likely coma nn a ain anil mav i i pass, units its enemies shall call i indium uu iue nam vtiie. in me lui ter eveat, as many of the members have gone home, and ill likclv not return this session, the bill mar not secure enough votes to secure its age.

Should the Oklahoma bill be defeated its friends siy they will see that the No Man's Laud bill meets Lie fate. Tho present indications I are that neither bill can become a law 2 Railroads 2 Lund OOico at Harden City, July 188(1. A. Ktittmnn, all year, who labor long and hnrd, may take too much care of themselves and their general health, but if it is wo never heard of any. On the othor hand, we know of numbers who from mental anxiety to get in their crops at tno proper tinio and in good coiuli tion, have not only overworked thoni selves but neglected the simplest by gienic rules, and nro lonf? before tho cud of summer, liko their work stock, almoBt if not quite broken down and used up. It is not by hurry or worry that the most work is done, but by coolly planning, deliberately conduct ing, and by taking ample timo to ininK, plan and execute. Tho "dog in tho manger" proceedings of Gov.

Martin's Commissioners at Lakin are cei-tainlv firawinrr in close. They are on tho run and tho peopie are aner tuoin. iney wont do their duty, aud are trying their best to keep legally elected officers from performing their duty. They aro like the cat thoy have nine lives, but they are now on tho ninth death bed, anil their demise is onlv a nuestinn of short duration. The have run thoir race.

They have fought the fight, and ITot ffloriolislv uliinnnil find ninrt. itication, humiliation, constipation aud contamination have sot in. Certainly they are in a bad fix, and all tho in trigue maneuvering they can do will not save them. "Lift vour foot trout ly." PENSIONS FOR SOLDIERS. The republicans who aro assailing Mr.

Cleveland's vetuns nt unlawful and fraudulent pension bills may see him yet called tho soldiers' special friend before tho campaign is over. The howls of the rfiDlllilii'iLns nvar av. ery veto will concentrate a great deal oi auonuon upon Uie facts of the pen sion office and the nrivata hills nnKKA.1 by congress. A letter from Washing ton mentions the curious circumstance that when Mr. Cleveland vetnps pension bill the author never asks to nave passed over the veto.

Ho never courts investigation of the evidonce. The vetoes havo been for good reasons in every case, and the president has ueen reany to explain tliem. During the last threo voars of rfinnliliein rnlo 191,221 pension claims were passed in me pension omce. During the three years of domoemtiV ruin 452 claims were passed. Tho three years of democratic rule havo giveu the soldiers $34,000,000 more than the last threo years of republican rule.

Since Mr. Cleveland took the chair 1.200 nrivate nension bilk lmv Iia. come laws, while it took twenty four i i years oi repuDiican power to pass 1, 524. Genoral Black has reformed and vitalized this office, so that the searches are- completed far less time than the republican lazy fashion used to consume. More claims are exiuniued and tho pensioner gets his money sooner.

In all his utterances, public and private, Mr. Cleveland has shown a deep interest in the ex sol diers and has favored generous recognition from the government. His acts havo sustained his utterances. He is entitled to tho gratitude of tho men who are being led by selfish pol iticans to criticise his pension record. Republican senators and representatives have taken UlO nnnnrtnnitv Rinna Mr.

Cleveland took tho oath of office to sneak in a lot of fraudulent and flimsy claims, with tho ulnn thnt. it they became laws, certain constituents would get money and bo pleased, and if the president vetoed them h.ul about enmity to the soldiers could be raised. Everybody knows tho carelessness with which, undor the immn of courtesy, members of both houses i ii voie ior inese private biUs. Tho ro sponsibility was thrown upon tho president and he met it with tho firm sense of responsibility he has nover lost for a moment. The country will applaud him and honest iMiom 1 be first to extend commendation.
