Many pensioners are in the habit of making affidavit to their pension claim cm the day preceding tho day designated by hw, which is perjury according to the statutes, The pension is nut duo unt 1 the 4th day tf tho month und a notary public certifying to such pension papers is liable to prosecution as well as the pensioner making false Appomattox Commercial. A gentleman showed us the special edition of tho Garden City Sentinel a few days ago, and while, in our judgment, it has displayed marked enterprise in producing such a "picture gallery," wo camo to the conclusion that it was rightly named as "The Sentinel and its Gang." It shows up one side of Garden City in elegant shape, while a large number of the main wheel horses of tho city are completely ignored. Why was it thus? That Chantilly will get tho county neat there is no question of doubt. That north Kearney will got one, if not two railroads, is given up as a fact That the great Suez Canal will be built through north Kearney this coming spring, there is a certainty.

With all these big enterprises on tho march, will give Chantilly and north Kearney county such a boom that cannot bo checked for years to couio. Let her boom, we are prepared to meet all such emergencies. Tho information reaches us that every claimant in this district who has proved up two quarters in the Garden City land district will be visitod by a government special examiner, who will also inspect the lauds. Tho ob ject of the government is to discover whether or not the settler, acquiring a homestead as well as pre emp-tion claim, has adheared to the letter of the law. It is opined by those near the throne that it will bo difficult for a settler to retain more than ICO acres ofgovernment land in addition to his timber claim.

This is bad for monopolists. Grant County Register. Fifty cents invested in linseed oil, and an hour's time in applying it to your wagon whoels, will save you the expense of having the tires of your wagon cut and perhaps a break dow or trouble of some kind just when you least expect it. Put the oil iuto a shallow vessel ana neat it as not as you can. Raiso the wagon wheel aa when oiling spindle, end plr.ee tlw vessel under so that the rim will pas.j through tho oil.

Pass the rim through tho oil slowly three or four times, and the work is done. Tho h')t oil penetrates tho felly and saves the wood, it prevents water from entering. The wheel should be dry and if wormed it will be all the better-. A movement is on foot to have a special mail on Wednesdays from La kin to Chantilly, which would give us three mails each week, or a mail every other day. Frank McAllister, the owner of tho mail and stage lino now running Mondays and Fridays, will give us a special mail ou Wednesdays for $3 each week, which must be paid by tho citizons of Chantilly and vicinity.

This would be $12 for four weeks. The Coyote heads the list with fifty cents a week, and if we can get enough to pay Mr. McAllister, tho mail will be forthcoming as soon as an order can be obtained from Washington. Let all pay their part, and secure the mail. You can subscribe by leaving what you think you are able to stand, at the postoflice, and get a recipt for the same.

A weighing pounds receut ly got on a Santa Fe train at Tcpt-ka, with a ticket for Atchison that had expired the day before. When the train agent reached him the traiu was sevcn.l miles from Topeka. and after examining tho ticket tho agent ld the passenger he would bo compelled to pay 11.50 or get off the train. He refused to d.i either, saying that if it hud not been for delays he experienced on the road sjuth of Topeka, ho woidd have been able to reach Atchi son In-fore the ticket expired. The train was brought a st tudti'l after considerable argument, and the traiu agent, calling the br.ikeman and conductor to his ttSsisteuce, trie! t-jit-t the big man.

What has become of the "Suffrage Protective League?" We hope it is not frozen up for the winter, as there is lota of work to do before the "roses bloom again." The supreme court has adjouned until February, without acting on the Kearney county seat case, and nothing may be expected until after they convene again next month. Report says that the suez canal will sure bo completed through north Kearney this spring. The extreme cold weather, has stopped the survey, but it will be resumed again as soon as winter breaks. The blizzard in the northern states last week was the worst ever known in that country. The thermometer run as low ns 52 below zoro.

People froze to death by the dozens. The dispatches indicate great suffering. The Republican party is fighting their own platform of 1884 "Crow" is not very good diet to start out with and if they are not supplied with better meat, they will sicken and die long before the blighting frost of ne.tt November rolls around. A county south of here in this state is named Grant, one of its towns is named Ulysses and the other Appomattox, both of which are striving for the county seat. As they are nil named in honor of the illustrious hero, they ought to be good fighters.

People who weigh well their thoughts before giving expression to the 6ame, are not liable to slip very far from the path of propriety, but those who "speak twice, und think once," must blame only themselves if they be tripped and "given away" by their flippant expressions. "The train am comin' 'round the bend," good-bye old Lakin, good bye; the county seat will sure come then, good-bye eld Lakin, good bye; the great Suez will water the farm, good bye old Lakin, good bye; then the ballot box frauds con do us no Larm, gotd-bye old Lakin good bye. i And now it turns out that the Rock Island railroad will run through north Kearney county. This is just r.s we expected, as this part of the county is the luckiest section in western Kansas. The railroad, as well as all other large corporations, know where to plant in order to reap a big harvest From the way the Kansas City Times speaks, we judge that the Oklahoma country will be open ed to settlement by this ccrgress, The Times Is a six horse team when it advocates the rights i the people, and is entitled to much credit for the several years of consistf-nt work towards the opening of this promised land.

New York has dropped to the posi tion of the sixth state in tho Union iu the number of miles of her rail road. Illinois stands et the head, fol lowed by Iowa, Kansas, Texas, Penn sylvania, New York and Ohio. Kan gas, with 400 jre miles of railway than New York, is an object less ju worthy of study. Chicago Inter Ocean. The Lakin and Syracuse papers are going into hysterics over a visionary change iu the nta Fe division.

The scheme inaugurated by these towns is to have the Coolidge round house and division headquarters moved tj one of these two places, which, no doubt, can be done, provided they purchase a controlling interest in the Santa Fe railroad. However, greater tilings than these have transpired in history. Electricity is making rapid rdvan ces in the operation of all kinds of industries. The Eloctic review iys, concerning the application of electri city to the manipulation of the engine gongs, that "the old time boll rope, that for years has adorned the ceiling 11 -At 111 oi an cars, is 10 ue feuimuniel liy a concealed wire connected with push onions, insure ana outsuia the car, only a toach being needed to give the eignal should a coupling break, the electricity coupling is served and the gong iu the cab wains the engineer of the fact A test apparatus his been made on an Erie piissenger traiu and it has been found work perfect lv." lars that ought bo in the pockets of the pepplo to day. It deccivod tho people of America with promises, while tho leaders were getting rich at the expense of the people.

Mo- nopolies were getting control of the whole country bv tho aid of tho Re publican party. The public lands were fast passing into the hands of railroads and foreign svudicates. The peoples' money was getting scarcer each year by being lucked up in Hie treasury vaults and down in the pockets of monopolists. In 1884, as usual, the Republican party camo out with promises in their platform, telling the people what great evils the Democratic party had douo and what it had failed to do. But like a hungry panther on the trail of the fawn, the Democratic party fallowed in tho direction of reform, and charging the Republican party with irregularities in tho financial affairs of our country, and "pledging to revise tho tariff in a spirit of fairness to all interests." The two great parties were almost touching each other on the tariff question at that time, as the following plank out of each platform will show: DEMOCRATIC.

That change Is neces r.KVUHMlM.t. Tho democratic party has failed touipleto ly to rel eve tne ample ot the luiriien of unnefessary taxntl -n by a wise, reduction of the surplus. 'J lie republican party plctlire i self to correct I lie Irreiruliitlon of tuo tariff, anil to reduce tue surplus. sary In proved by tin exl-tintr surplus of ii.ori! thun tui.iiuii.iiuii. iii tins yearly liecn collected from a ml- Tiltir peonle.

I n- neiesary taxation 1 unjust luxation. 1 hi) democratic party piedireil to re', law tue larlir in a spirit o' Inlriiess to all inter- tats. Here were the two great parties promising the people to do the same thing, and each reproaching the other for not having done it. Which was sincere? The people hardly knew until Mr. Cleveland's ringing message was sent to congress.

That cleared the atmosphere. When the h.izo floated away there was the democratic party standing whero it has always stood for reform and reduced 'taxes. And there was tho republican party too. But it had dropped the banners which it had stolen and was on the run, ana when it rallied it was uuuer its true colors. The flag of monopoly tariff aaJ fcixation for tariff had been raised, and the chieftain had sent the war cry from across tho waters.

Tho platforms stand as they stood in 1881, but which was sham and which was real is no longer doubtful. That is all Mr. Cleveland's message has dono. Haskell county had an ho nest cen sus taker to enumerate that county, tho consequence of which, the county is organized and running their own business without having to be attached to tho tail of some other county. And the beauty of it is, they are all satisfied and are working together as brothers for the good cf tho county at large.

Had Gov. Martin been wise enough iu appointing the enumerators of Kearney, Greely and Grant counties, and secured honest men, all would to day be in a great deal more prosperous coudition, instead of being in the chaotic wrangle they are now in. Fraudulent and designing men of the county, in conjunction with drunken, unscrupulous census takers, have waged monarchy over tho honest tettlcrs of these counties, in their rights of suffrage, until common decency, even as practiced in the relm of political trickery between the opposite parties is a code cf high honor beside the slimy transactions of these nefarious cliques who have stooped to the lowest grade known to the human race, iu order to accomplish their purpose. Yet, they have so fur failed to gain their end, but have held the counties in abeyance by their trickery and fraud, causing the honest settlers untold trouble mid expense to get their rights. It is tho first instance in the history of any Btute where the mint.rity had control over the uiajori ty, us is the case in these unorauized comities.
