2 TEACHER AND done. Those who were in the contest against Tammany may now consistently say: "We have met the enemy and we are theirs." KANSAS AND THE WEST. A few years ago aid was sent west for the western sufferers. Now the conditions have changed. It should be remembered that the drought territory has in all cases been confined to a comparatively small part of western Kansas and western Nebraska.

This suffering will probably never occur again, as the people are learning how to take that country. It is not an agricultural but a stock raising country. The editor has had some opportunity to observe the character of the freight traffic of this part of the west. We have observed that the freight trains go east loaded and cone west empty. Train loads of wheat, corn, broom-corn, cattle and hogs are daily moving toward the eastern markets.

Confidence in the west has been restored. What we need is confidence in the crops on an average. We must expect some short crops; but the average is good. The land is casily tilled. We observe that western people who haye staid by their homes, living economically, are in a few years in good circumstances and well pleased with the country.

Indeed. few people who have onced lived in Kansas or Nebraska can become fully satisfied elsewhere. The Irving Memorial Society has begun on the new term's work with a great deal of enthusiasm-not only enthusiasm, but a determination to make the society what its name implies it should be.

Baldwin, W. W. Lichty, Royal Eisenbise, Sadie Netzloy, Mary Frantz, Agnes Schmalzried, Fred Garst, Harry Heiney, I. O. Toevs.

A bookcase has been purchased recently by the society. We have several volumes in our library and expect to add more as soon as possible. A few volumes have been contributed by our former members. We always appreciate such kindness and should feel grateful to anyone who might wish to help our cause in that way, You know our address. do you not On November 13.

F. Studebaker, on the subject, Am I a Member of an Irving Memorial Society, an interesting program was rendered. The College Male Quartette favored us with some excellent music. The selections by the Mandolin Club were.
