Inspector Mehring reports that with another rain this month or another irrigation that Entz, Coerber and other beet growers will raise thirty five tons to the acre. The school board have re-engaged Mists Maud Pearl and Ethel Tate as intermediate and primary teachers for the coming year. The principal has not yet been selected, but probably will be soon. Charley Smith was on the sick list this week. Mr. and Mrs. John McNellis went to Garden Thursday to see the fair. Miss Maud Pearl returned Wed nesday night from an extended visit with friends in Texas and Okla- homa.

Misses Lizzie and Edyth Miller, of La Junta, came in Tuesday evening and are the guests of Misses Clnra and Ella Wright. The railroad company has put in small stock pens at Lantry which will hold a couple of carloads of stock. This will be quite a convenience to stockmen in the west end of the county. The Investigator has recently placed in position $150 worth of new material, and we are now prepared to turn out commercial work in first-class style, and respectfully invite a share of your patronage. Joseph Bittiker, of Ulysses, Grant county, was a visitor in Dodge City yesterday. Mr. Bittiker is the man who has been having a large automobile built. His machine is expected to take the place of a railroad between Hartland aud Hugo-ton. Mr.

Bittiker has the contract far carrying the mail between Hartland and Hugnton. It occmred to him that an automobile would be the proper thing for covering the mail route. Carrying the idea farther, he decided to have the vehicle made large enough tc carry passengers as well. The machine was lilt at McPhersou during the past three weeks, and when a few improvements are added it will be run through to Ulysses for service. Dodge Globe-Republican.

Chas. Waterman and his telephone line crew were distributing and erecting poles on Main street Tuesday. Misses Kate Logan, Ethel Tate and Florence Parctdls were among Lakin's fair visitors to Garden City Thursday.

W. J. Bailey, the Republican nominee for govomor, will speak in Lakin Saturday, at p. in Snow's hall. Rev.

13. F. Vaughan will hold services at the Presbyterian church tomorrow, morning and evening; at the brick school house on the south side in the ofternoou. F. F.

Mehring was in this section last Friday and Saturday inspecting the sugar beets, and finds the most of them in better condition than he was led to suppose. Ad Heiland left Monday morning for Las Animas, where he will join John Harboldt, who has the contract for the erection of eight or ten new buildings at that point. Ben Long got the idea into bis head Monday that hj was one of the boys and could ride anything. The result was that the old mare threw bim, and Dr. Johnston had to repair his collar bone.

Commissioner A. R. Beaty returned Tuesday morning from a six week's sojourn at Hot Springs, where he has been for a severe attack of rheumatism from which he has been suffering for some time, but thinks his sojourn at the springs benefitted him. -V4l SPECIAL OFFER- ll.
