BUSINESS MEN. For Further Particulars aeo Large Bills and Programme this week. From the Council Grove Cosmos: This excellent tract of laud is situated about four and a half miles pouth ot Council Grove, and comprises 720 acres of as tine land for the purpose intended as any in the state. It was purchased at a handsome figure by Mr. J.

K. Lake, of Chicago, son-in-law of Mr. T. J. Clark, at present of our city.

The farm is to be stocked with thoroughbred brood mares. The first shipment of 53 head arrived last Saturdav evening, and on Sunday morning were taken out to their new home. They arc pronounced by men who claim to be judges of good stock, the best lot of mares that ever entered the county. Mr. II.

E. Vf. Looinis has charge of the business, and informs us that another shipment of the Fame grade of stock will be brought in in a lew weeks, and from time to time during the summer the herd will be added to until ft is complete. These mares were selected with great care, by men who have a thorough knowledge of the business and who know the true worth of an animal. Many admirers of horse flesh drove out last Sunday to take a view of the place and inspect the new stock.

They found Messrs. Clark and Loomis very sociably inclined gentlemen.who took pains in showing them around and entertaining them. This herd of mares consists principally of the Morgan, Blackhawk and Messenger stock. Some fancy prices were paid for some of these mares, one span of which, three years ago. was purchased at a cost of $1,500.

They range in value from the above figure down to The purchaser of Lake View-farm intends making some valuable improvements and in a short time will have things fixed up iu apple-pie order. One of the first steps will be to erect a barn, the dimensions of which will be 150 in length, with two wings of 75 feet each. The entire 720 acres is to be enclosed with a fence of cedar posts, barbed wire and pine lumber. It will require an outlay of thousands of dollars to complete the improvements intended, and a large share of this amount will be distributed among the merchants and mechanics of our town. "We can well feel proud of such an enterprise, and heartily welcome these gentlemen among uk.

Mr. Clark Promises to take us out and show us around when they get fixed up, and we then hope to be able to give a better description of the plaen. In this new-venture we wish these gentleiucu great succes, and would be glad to see the county filled up with just such enterprising people. The recent cold weather has done but little damage to the growing crops iu this vicinity so far as we can learn. An Oscar Wildish looking man stepped into Ewing Smith's dental office last Saturday to have a tooth extracted.

He was placed in the chair and the forceps applied. After getting a death grip on the pesky-tooth, and just as he was about to make the necessary pull, the young man in a moment of excitement made a grab for the doctor's wrist, at the a.wu time entangling his fing-crs in his long whiskers. A sudden pui'i brought out the tooth and a big bunch of whiskers, and it was hard to determine which suffered the mo.it pain for a time, the doctor or his patient. John Boss, while fishing above the ford last night dropped a 15 silver watch and gold chain to the bottom of the Neosho. In Irving to recover the watch he lost a gold sleeve button.

The treasures are there yet. To Ihc Veteran Soldiers of Morris Conutj. Comrades On Saturday last at a meeting of some members of our organization, it Kt agreed that our nevt re-union should take place at Parkerville on July 4tb. The committees of the various townships appointed at our last re-union for the purpose of perfecting company organization arc earnestly requested to immediately prepare rosters of the veterans in their respective townships. Our comrades are requested to hand in their names to these committees and prest-nt their discharges in order that they may be properly recorded.

We want a record of each mans service. We propose effecting an organization to which it will be an honor to be a member and we will have no men in the organization who cannot show au honorable discharge from the service ot the United States. Our committees appointed for the purpose will complete their rosters as soon as possible and report to Lieut. Col. J.

S. Pro-vine or to Adjutant W. D. Johnsou, prior to the 1st day of July next. Lt.

Col. Provine will furnish lists of these committees and publish the same, will be chairmau of the general committee ot arrangements for the re-union, with power to appoint other committees and sub-committees, and he will take charge of our veteran organization until further orders.
