IT IS THEREFORE, TnE BEST ADVERTISING MEDIUM IN KcLiaioiTS Services. Rev. R. J. Hesson of the English Lutheran church will preach in th Presbyterian IIalfron next Sabbath warning at the usual hjur of service.

There will be no service in the IS. E. Church to morrow, morning or evening. The Sabbath School will also bo emitted. Ker.Mr.Menge.of the German Lutheran Church, will preach at Price's Lower Hall, to morrow at the usual hours.

Semcea in the other churches as announced elsewhere. On the Camp ground preaching will eceur at 8, and A. and 2 and 7i P. and other services will take place as circumstances may suggest. The market was fine this morning said to bare been the 'dest of the season.

Police Judge Harrison informs us that during nine days of this month, not a single arrest was mde in this city for any breach of the city ordinances. Received per express the finest and nicest Gaiters, Balmorals and Slippers for Ladies Hissos, and In farts that could be had in New York this morning, at P. King's expressly for the city trade. d2t The namo of J. C.

Peters is announced in our columns as a candidate for County Trcasuror. Mr. Peters is an old citizen of the county, and has many friends among the people. He is competent to fill the office of Treasurer, and if elected will discharge its duties well and faithfully. A Shake.

A rattlesnake was killed on tho camp meeting ground on Thursday last. It was already suspected by seme that tho evil one had taken this guise insinuate himself into the camp and perhaps do harm to some ef the occupants. The death tho reptile is not to be regretted. Take a Sbat. New and fast line for the Camp Meeting.

Charley Andrews has put on a hack, and will carry passengers to and from the Camp Ground to morrow, from the corner of Fourth and Commercial erery two and a half hours, leaving at 7 o'clock a. m. Charley will accommoJate all who call on him. Kansas Fecit. We yesterday saw a dwarf pear tree not more than seven feet in height, which held 148 fine pears.

It was a fine sight, and 'affords another evidence of the adaptability of Kansas soil for fruit growing. Tho tree was on the "Grape Hill" farm three miles north of the city. Bishop Vail, says of a $5000 Policy which he holds in the "Mutual Life of New York" that he is highly pleased with tho results, and he would adriso every man to take an Endorsement Policy in the old famous-substantial "Mutual Life." M. GAYLORD, Local agent Atchison. W.

II. Fisueb, special agent, A row occurred in one of tho saloons near our sanctum to day. Two arrests were made. We observed that one well-dresied rowdy whom Kinney was leading to the calaboose was minus a hat-. Kinney said the fellow btruck his antagonist after he was arrested, and for that reason ought to be compelled to go through the street bareheaded.

Other rowdies will take war ning. Our readers will find the name of Theo. II. Minehart as a candidate for county Treasurer. Mr.

Minehart is one of our oldest and best known citizens, having been connected with business in this city for many years. Ho has many friends who will vote for him in full confidence as to his fitness for tho office. Wo wish him all the success which may bo justly claimed lor nim. We take pleasure in announcing to iaj tho name of David Baker, as a candid ate for the office of County Treasurer. Mr.

Baker, if elected, will make an efficient officer. He is worthy of the place ho seeks no was a launiui somier tiunng me war and lost a leg in the service of his country. The people should not forget the claims of the soldier in the distribution of the places of honor and profit. Matkimomal. The Probate Judge, Mr A.

W. Spaulding, informed us, a day or two ago, that he had issued forty-three marriage licenses since that duty had devolved on him. The first one was issued Feb. 2Sth 1867. This would make the average about two a week.

Tha-matrimo-ial market is not lively now, either. When business gets good again say about tho holidays the Judge expects to do much more in this line. Strange as it nay appear, there is occasionally a person, qualified to officiate in such matters, who don't know that it is necessary that the candidates be properly licensed. Only a short time ago an elderly clergyman in this eouoiy married a couple, who baa not procured a license, and the Result was be had to call them in, when he made the dis covery that he had acted in violation of law, and marry them over again, to save himself from prosecution under the law. It was an unpleasant affair for the otherwise happy couple, but they submitted, we believe, with a tolerably quiet demeanor to the infliction.

Preachers must obey the laws. J. Fear, the present efficient deputy, is out in our columns as a candidate for the offico ef County Treasurer. The manner in which he now fills the office of deputy warrants the belief that he is fully competent to discharge the duties efthe office he seeks. He is one of many can didatcs for a retj responsible offiee, and we trust the people will give his claims a candid1 consideration.

Transient visitors te the Camp Ground to morrow will find the Boardinz tent ef Ziah King a good place to get meals. Mr. King has a large and well-supplied tent and will furnish regular meals at fifty cents each. For the extra dinner which he pre pares to-morrow the charge will be twen ty-five eents extra that is seventy-five cents. The Camp ground is very pleasantly lo cated on ground gently sloping towards the north.

It isR-ell supplied with seats, shaded almost completely by oak and hickory trees, and close at hand is a very fine spring of cool water. A better location could hardly hare been selected. Moved Away. Many of our eitizens may have noticed that the saw-mill which has long stood on the Winthrop bank cf the river, and blowed steam and scattered saw dust in plain view of the residents on the bluff, has gradually moved down the river and finally slopped at a point nearly opposite the foot of Main and a little farther from the river bank. This raoiing process has not been by water-power, tho' the operations of the Missouri river led to tho removal.

The property was purchas ed by Messrs. Cummings Adams, some time in October last. Not long after it appeared that the mill was being undermined by the eurrent of the rirer, which had washed away large portions of the bank during the spring rise. It was at once decided, as a measure of safety, to remove the building from its treacherous location to a safer spot. Accordingly the proprietors procured a lot and prepared a site for the mill, as before mentioned, and removed it to its present location.

The removal has oecapied some weeks, and the mill is now about ready to scatter sawdust and blew steam once more. The washing of the bank on the Winthrop side of the river, the present season, has been very destructive to the interests of the property holders in that vicinity. The Camp Meeting. The meeting in MoVay's Grove has beea in progress since Tuesday night. The attendance has been good, and the interest in the meetings, considerable.

There are, we believe, eighteen tents, occupied by probably four times that number of families, and also a boarding tent, which accommodates many transient visitors to the camp. Besides those regularly domiciled in the tents there are many who temporarily occupy them, being those who can spend but a little time in the camp, visitors and friends of the regular occupants. Altogether tho attendance is quite as good as eould he expected. Several hacks and ether conveyances ply oonstantly between the camp and tho eity, and generally carry full leads each way. The usual order of services has been prayer or class 'meeting at 8, and preaching at 10 a.

preaching 2 and 7 p. m. The evening service is usually preceded by a prayer-meeting and followed bv an ex hortation and convert meeting. There are also other special prayer-meetings held. Est.

MiJXA in TnE vvidskness. lae camp ground, where the people have gone up to gather manna, is a place of peculiar inter est. There it is that the care3 of business are all banished, and the worshipers left free to gather the manna as it descends from heaven upon the camp. Rieh and poor there are equal.

Old and young are alike rejoicing. Banker bows at the altar with the laboring man the plebian and the patrician find sweet fellowship in the camp, and the same manna feeds them all God's green trees are the canopy that covers them, and the pure air of heaven fans their brows, and stirs the heavy flaxen locks of youth and tho thin gray hairs of age. Viewed by the light of the evening lamps the seece is interesting and peculiarly The moonlight struggling in through rifts in the leafy canopy, is lost in the glowing fianio of the lamps; the bowed multitude within the altar during the hour of prayer, and tho listening company on the rough benches the preacher expounding the Word from the primitive pulpit of unplained the whole company joining anon in the song of swell ing praise; the weeping suppliant at the al tar the shouting saint with the evidence of salvation the sweet influence of these combined associations on the camp ground, are pleasant to contemplate, and savor richly efthe great Pentacostal scene, or ef the glorious Feast ofTabernacles. The camp ground is no place for levity, for mirth, or scoffing. There areTbany Chris tians in the camp, and they are intent on thework in hand.

"Earnest in season and oufof 'season" for the salvation of sinners, and for the reviving presence of the-Spirit of God.
