In tne Past our vears there ave been built 1,402 new school buildings. David J. Jones, ton of Rev, John Jone has started a coal and wood yard at the corner of Thursday-av. and Commercial-st. south of the railroad.

Mr. Jones is an enterprising young Welshman and we hope to fee him build up a large trade. The Chairman of the Board of Commissioners and the County Clerk have signed the Jackson-tp. railroad bonds and sent them to New York city to be placed in escrow until the Kansas City and Emporia railroad is built, when they will be turned over to the railroad company. The comet which has been drawing the eyes of our citizens towards the northern heavens, reached its maximum of brightness lat Thursday night, it is moving away from the earth the rate of 300,000 miles per day, but in spite of this rapidity ot movement will be visible for several months.
