Arkansas Valley Editorial Association Dear Sir, Please say to tho meeting of your Association on baturday, that Mackinaw has been decided upon as tho objective point of the Edito rial Excursion this year. The timo will be latter part of June, and tho details ot the trip will bo arranged and announced in ample season. I think I may safely assure you that this will bo oneol the most inter csting and delightful excursions yet undertaken, and 1 hopo every Kansas editor will contributo his talent and beauty to tho occasion Yours very truly, Henry Kim. On motion of Walker a vote of thanks was tendered tho people of Newton for tLcir hospitality and also a similar one relating to tho editors of that city.

On motion, ot h. wood tho meeting in'July was ordered to bo held at Sterling. Tho Chair appointed the following gentlemen to make all arrangements lor the same Messrs. Ulmer, Cowgill and Wood. On motion, a unanimous vote of thanks was tendered tho proprietors of the Opera House for the use of their hall for a place ot meeting.

On motion of Mr. Ulmer a com miteo of three, of which Mr. Von Langen should bo chairman, was appointed on scientific matters The chair appointed Messrs. Von Langen, Ulmer and Philip Schraitz. The matter ol discussion in regard to keeping accounts was defer red till the next meeting.

In regard to the colored refugees seeking for homes in Kansas, the following resolution of Mr. Towns lev was adopted Whereas, Thousands of refugees are emigrating from the bouthern States to Kansas, and Whereas, There are thousands of aeres of government land in tho Arkansas valley awaiting the hand of the husbandman, therefore Resolved. That this Association invito the State Committeo at Tope ka, haying charge of this emigra tion to use their efforts to place homesteaders upon our vacant lands, regardless of color, race or previous condition of servitude. On motion of Meridith the chair appointed a committee of three who shall visit every office in the association at lerst once a year and note the cleanliness therein and report to the association. The one having the best regulated and neatest office s) all have an honorable mention of the same spread on the minutes.

Some of the finest specimens of white, chalk we have ever seen, were found two miles east of Ford ham. One of the largest wild-cats seen in this part of the county was killed by Burt Wilson last week on Sec tion 12. They propose to organize a lodge of "Sons of America" at Ilodgman Centre. Mack Ilerron is to bo the President. The latest popular amusement on the Saw-Log is "frogging parties." The outlay is small- and the amusement It is confidently expected that the Hodgman County sage, Dr.

Lavenberg, will return from his home in Missouri this week. E. R. Fulton will commence building his ofhee this week so that he may be able to move his law practice to the county seat, whore-ever it may be. William Roys and Herbert Blanch ard from Colon, are here looking for a location.

They brought with them a carload of goods, and mean to stay. Eli bailey has planted a fine orchard this spring, besides putting some other substantial improve, ments on his homestead. He has one of the finest claims in the valley. Lew Hubbard formerly of Kins ley is erecting a stone house on his claim near the proposed town of Buckner; he intends engaging in the harness trade. His saddles are to be relied upon.

Gold was discovered in paying quantities on the Sawlog below Point of Rocks by a party of Mis souri miners during the excitement of Pikes Peak.
