Needless to say, Elliott had no junk here, not even a wheelbarrow load, and the fellow went back to St. Joseph vowing to punch Elliott's face. Leedy has disposed of his Kansas property and will leave for Oregon in a short time where lie will engage in the insurance ing a small sum of money that he had borrowed. Can it be that Frank Elliott, late governor's private secretary and Populist spellbinder, has descended to the level of the common swindler? It would appear so, as the man who tells the story of the junk deal claims to have spent $2 or S3 for drinks ou the strength of the deal. And yet nothing: else could have resulted. When Elliott came to Troy he had the Times office clear of debt and a fair future before him, For two years he was in the service of Gov. Leedy, holding a good position and a good salary as a rewaid for his alleged services to the Populist party.

Other parties who loaned him money and otherwise befriended him would like to have him liquidate the linaucial end of his obli gations. It seems strange that a man can worm himself into tbe confidence of a large firm of Craig Motter, at Wathena. Col.
