The attendance has not been large, but the work seems to be beginning in earnest. Isaac A. Rigby. of Concordia, who was in town Tuesday of last week on business connected with the estate of Mrs. Nancy Hargis, was born at Geary City, where his father used to run the mill.

Seventeen years ago they moved to Concordia, where the young man has practiced law nearly ten years, having graduated in 1885 from the Law Department of the State University. The trains were tied up pretty com- pletely Wednesday and Thursday. The Grand Island train due here at 5 p. m. didn't come.

The night irain west and yesterday morning's east were annull- ed. The Rock Island north-west was tied up at Fairbury coming east. The south-west trains went through, but not on time. The Grand Island snow plow went west yesterday about 10 o'clock. The skating was pronounced fine the last of last and the first of this week.

The moonlight made the evenings beautiful. Amongst the merry skaters M. A. Alexander was perhaps the merriest. He ventured on the ice only once, however, and not succeeding in getting his feet to do his bidding, as they used to when he was a boy, concluded to venture no more.

C. Leland, joined in the sport a few times, and the dullness of a fall (this by report) which he and one of the fair skaters endured, fairly shook the ice from edge to edge of the pond. The discussion of the weather was the principal theme yesterday. All admitted that it was cold and all insisted that tt was a matter of news that should be chronicled. The main question to be settle seemed to be whether it was colder than during our other cold spell.

The thermometers registered all the way from 12 to 18 degrees below which made it the coldest of the season. But those who claim to have the best thermometers claim that it was not so cold as before. The strong wind made Wednesday night the coldest of the season indoors, whether the mercury went as low, or not, as previously.
