pi BP ME 82 Sf. 5 Tt this time there seras but little doubt that Calvin S. Brice will be e-lected U. S. senator by the Ohio legislature.

The Democratic papers outside the state are warning the Ohio Democrats against electing him, telling them tnat it will be a calamity to the part)', but Brice is a millionare, and as the Ohio papers put it, he is "putting twie as much money in the campaign" as anyone else, and so the Ohio Democratic legislator has decided to let the party take care of itself and he will take care of himself. The county commissioners are in session this week. Mr.

Thrasher, of Sterling, elected to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Keidler, took his seat at this meeting of the board. There will probably be e-nough business before the board to occupy their time a greater part of this week. Parties desiring to go into the milling business, should look over the advantages offered by our city and county. A very laige acreage of wheat Was sown this fall, and a large a-mount of grain will be threshed the coming season. Our nearest mill is 25 miles.

We make this correction injustice to Mr. Baccus, who, of course, does not desire to be made to appear to receive more than he really did, or was justly entitled to. Does it Pay to Feed Hogs? II. C. Nichols, Home two months ago bought 22 shoats and bought the corn to feed them with.

This week he sold 15 of the shoats for enough to pay what all the shoats cot and for the corn he fed Ihem and his team of horses, and has seven head of shoats left. It pays to raise hogs, even in drouthy Kansas. Speareville Blade. We understand that a part of the indebtedness of the county will be bonded the coming year, and the taxes proportionately reduced. This is a move in the right direction.

While our taxes are not high, compared with some of our neighboring counties, we believe it will be easier for our people pay this money in ten or twenty years from now that at the present time. The taxable property in the county will have increased to such an extent in that time that what now seems a burden would not be noticed. A low rate of taxation is also an inducement for the investment of foreign capital, which we should encourage by every means in our power. If farming does not pay in this country where does it par? J. It.

Stillwagon, of Sherlock, recently threshed nine acres of alfalfa, getting eighty-one bushels of seed an average of nine bushels per acre. A part of the seed he sold at 4. per bushel, or 30.00 per acre. From this piece he cut three crops of hay, averaging six tons per acre for the three cuttings, worth at present 13-00 per ton or $18.00 per acre. The expence of irrigatiou, harvesting and threshing is about 400 per acre, giving Mr-Still wagon a clear profit of $50.00 per acre for land that is selling at $10.00 peracre.

Is there any money in farming under irrigation in souch-west Kansas. Garden City Sentinel. Two strange ladies, driving a fine span of horses and a top buggy, drove up to Ed Grant's place, near Buck-ner P. on Sunday evening, and requested lodging for the night. To Ed's assertion that he was a poor lone bachelor, and not prepared to entertain company, especially of the female persuasion, they turned a deaf ear and informed him that they would stay anyway, and quietly walked in and took possession.

They refused to give their names or place of residence, assisted in getting breakfast in the morning, and when ready to leave, asked what their bill was, and when Ed informed them that a dollar would settle the bill, they said they would see him again and putting the whip to their horses left in the direction of Dodge City.
