Caleb Epps, Epps, Birdie Mc- Jerry Wise was in town Tuesday and said trfat a mare belonging to him foaled the other night during a big rain storm, cn the bank of a gully, in some places ten feet deep. In the morning 'he began hunting tor the colt -and found it about forty rods down the stream, lodged in a pile of driftwood, with its head just above the water. He jumped into the water, which came up to his shoulders, and succeeded in landing the colt, and strange to say that it is still alive, fat and sassy, notwithstanding its early bath. Last Sunday afternoon, between two and three o'clock, during a thunder shower, a bolt of lightning struck a bigcottonWood tree on the farm of Henry Carbon, three miles west of town, and killed four horses that were tied beneath.it and severely stunned two more that were near. John Baugh had just started to enter the barn, near the tree, and was knocked senseless for quite a while.

He was badly shocked and escaped death by what seems a miracle. Two other men were also shocked. We did not learn their names. Three of the horses belonged to Henry Carbon and the other one to his son, Harry. John Baugh was in our office Monday and ordered the Enter-PRisnsent to Wm.

Carter, Tern-pefirizona. He said that he had just received a letter from Will, and that he was a very sick man. in the last stages of consumption. This we are very sorry to learn. Will, is an old Linn county boy, who spent the early part of his life here and moved to Arizona a few years ago, thinking it might benefit his health.

Johu also said that his brother Henry's wife, Will's sister, was very low with the same disease. This family seem to have more than their share of trouble and sorrow. Farland, Mable Speakes, Maud Epps, Grady Epps, J. A. Kpps.

This good fortune is the result of an estimate made by Mrs. Tetlow in accord ince with the Lion Coffee premium offer to those coming nearest to estimating the 4th of July attendance at the World's Fair. The total paid attendance at the St. Louis Exposition on July 4th, was 139,659. As Mrs.
