LOVE, MAERIAGE, HONEYMOON AND DEATH. What Preceded the Supposed Poisoning of Mayor Walkup by His New Orleans Bride Excitement Over the Affair in New Orleans- New Orleans, Aug. 21 for a long time has created so mucn excite- ment here as the news of the arrest in EmDoria. Kans of Mrs, Winnie Wal- lace Walkup for poisoning her husband, The marriage took plaoe just a montb to a day before the deatb. of her bus- band.

Mr. Walkup bal been a familiar figure on the street of New Orleans, lie was a Virginian and a handsome energetic man of considerable wealth and ability. lie was about forty-five years of age and a widower with two daughters. The youngest of his children. Miss Libbie was a year older than the wife he recently married.

He was six fiet two inches in height, Qnely proportioned, weighing over two hundred pounds, with blue wyes, light brown hair and bright, cheerful face, which tallied with his disposition. Minnie Wallace Walkup Is seventeen years old. Her father is James E. Wallace, a lawyer, and formerly U.S. Commissioner.

Every one who ever saw her noticed her beauty of face and form and Udylike department She was seen frequently oh the street, and was noted for her charms of person and taste in dress. She was about five feet seven inches in height. Her eyes were large and beautiful. Walkup had met Minnie when a child and watched her bloom into womanhood. Then he claimed her as his bride at Covington, Ky.

The wedding took place July 22J and was a brilliant affnir. There were sixty persons present The Hev. Dr. Loer, a Methodist minister, performed the ceremony. The entire party crossed the river to Cincinnati and a fine supper was served at the residence of a relative, Mrs-Moose, on Plum street.

Mrs. Walkup bade them good bye at Cincinnati and returned to New Orleans a few days later. The bridal couple seemed very happy and left for Niagara Falls, making a short trip and then going direct to the home of the groom at Emporia. From her letters Mrs. Walkup seemed to be living a happy life with no wants unprovided.

Her last lotter re ceived live days ago said Mr. Walkup was going on a short trip on business and that she was to go along. Willie Willis was eleven months old er than Minnie, lie was a son of John D. Willis, who died in Florida several years ag. His mother was a niece of Mrs.

Wulkup'a mother Mra.Willis, died aod when her boy was three years old and left him to the care of Mrs. Wal lace with whom he has lived ever since. Morrie and Willis were raised together. Willis' mother died of consumption, and he seemed to have a trace of the malady. He was a delecate boy of slender build He was as much attached to bis cousin as a brother.

Patrick Eatan Says it is wot ueau But Only Sleeping. Omaha, Aug. 25 Patrick i.agan. president of the Irish National League of America, in an interview to-day regarding the charge that the league las degenerated into a mere political ma chine and is therefore virtually dead, says: "While I was In New York 1 accepted the presidency of the league and while holding that position 1 was pre cluded from taking part In politics- Whatever my political opinions may have been, I maintained that position through the last presidential campaign and intend to maintain the same attitude so long as I am president of the league. That the league is dead is altogether a mistaken idea, we have nearly six hundred branches scattered over the country.

All of them will be in active working condition at the time of the national convention to be held in Chicago next January, which will be the largest ever held in America possibly with the exception of that of 1881, also held in Chicago. Parnell will pro bably be in attendance. He has prom ised to come if possible. D. D.
