1 mossy TQ mm (TIlements and I CHAPPE WIBNESDAT, JAHTTARY 6 1886 The American Administrators Notice. Notice Is hereby given that the ed wis on December lltb, 18B5, by the Probate eo art or Wabaunsee county State of Kansas appointed administra tor of the tato of Harrison Sherman late of said county deceased. Chancey V. Sherman. Notire of Final Settlement.

The undersigned administrator of the estate of Benjamin Riggs deceased hereby gives notice to all creditors and others interested in said estate that on January 15th 1886 he intends to make final settlement of his administration of said estate before the probate court of Wabaunsee county, Kansas and then to obtain his discharge as such administrat and that he will theu also present and have heard his claim for compensation for his services as such abminislrator. H. J. PrPPEBT, Administrator. ttihD'ini An MENS FURNISHING GOODO IN TOPEKA Our stock of Mens, Youths, Boys and I have conclude! to dispose my entire stock of Buggies, Phaetons, Carriages, Surreys- room 136, at greatly reduced rates.

Anyone wishing a bargain in Ho. 1 jobs of Tiffany, Abbott, Spiral Spring, Buckeye, Houston, Columbus, come at once and we will verif all we sav. "We will give yoii the best bargain to be found in the city. We have the finest line of Buggies, and in fact, the onlj house that has a full A rade Buggies in tho city, Childrens Clothing wear is the largest any in the state andj price for the same Aa to holiday politics, I may say Senator Beck's attack upon the financial policy of the Administration just before the Christmas recess has been more discussed tlian any othi subject. The Democratic friends of the standard silver dollar were unwilling to wait uutil after tlie holidays without taking issue with tlie President on tt is question.

Senator Beck fired tlie first gun, significant of an impeding battle that Is likeh to have a powerful influence over the parties. The Democratic party is badly divided on the silver question, and there is no telling what the outcome may be. Representative Ileagan, of Texas, a Democrat of long services iu the House, says he fears his party will go to pieces if Congress is exacted to become involved in this contest soon after it reassembles. The Democrats ai-Q badly in need of a leader in tlie Senate. Senator Beck was suposed to be the man, but his last performance lias bewildered his political brethern.

Senator Voorhees is said to lie sulking because lie has not been given all the patronage he wants. Senator Harris, of Tennessee, cannot speak for the President on tlie Silver question, be-caus he comes from that part of the country favorable to silver. In their di-leman Senator Vesthas come to the front as tlie man best fitted to be the mouthpiece of the Administration. He has been considered something of an erator by the Democrats, and he is perhaps, the best impromptu talker on their side of the Chamber. He has little to show, however, against srch an array of talent as may be touud on the Republican side of the aisle, where are such men as L.ogan, Edmunds, Sherman, Hoar, Ingalls, Frye, Evarts, Teller, Hawley, Dawes, Allison, jtforrill, and others.

It is a significant tact that Democratic Senators are fighting their President, when Congress is yet only two weeks old. Senator Eustis of Louisiana declared againist him long ago. aa will be remembered, and others are waiting to opiose some of his nominations in secret session. Speaking of the President's nominations that have to go before the Senate for conformation, a Republican Senator remarked that the five committees charged with reporting on these appointments had an unusually hard task before them iu the way of work, a task that will keep them busy for weeks. About 3,000 appoijtees have to be considered.

No general policy has been adopted to govern committees in their action upon these nominations, but they are overwhelmed with petitions, protests, charges, and defenses that would have to be quality 20 per cent; flower than else where and every article guranteed as We are going to close out at once, regardless of cost. The News believes that 1836 will be an eventful year for railroad building in Kansas, ana tliat Wabaunsee County will recievc the benefit of the Rock Island roar1, as those who represent that company have filed a charter iu the office Sect'y of State, proposing to build road through JV'ill Creek Valley, making Alma a point on the- line from Atchison to Wichita. This line, with Its branches, will make about seven liundrcd miles of new road in the State, and its construction will necessitate the disbuismcut of millions of money much of which will be dropped into tlie hands of laborers. With full grain aries, immense herds of fat stock and a fair demand for this supply, there is no reason to talk about hard times. KallroMl Uuilrilng. (Manhattan Republic.

Railroad Commissioner Humphrey, from a careful consideration of the situation in this 6tate, says the Topeka Common wcalih, estimates that the year 1886 will witness the greatest activity In railroad building iu Kansas, since tlie completion of the cast and west trunk roads. Mr. Humphrey estimates that at least seven or eight hundred miles of railroad will be constructed within the coming year, aud this without taking into account tlie possible extension of one or more eastern roods iuto the 6tate. The building of this well nigh one thousaud miles of railroad in various sections of the state, exceeding tho entire previous construction in Kansas since 1S85. will put, it is estimated, cigh or ten millions of dollars in circulation, which cannot but greatly enhance the prosperity of the fctatc.

CHARTERS. The following charter was illed yesterday in tho oflice of the secretary of tato: "The Chicago, Kansas Nebraska railroad." The road is to commence at the town of Larkin, Atchison count', and run in a southwesterly direction through Atchison, Jackson, Shawnee, Wabaunsee, Davis, Morris, Harvey, Butler and Sedgwick counties, to the city ef Wichita. Six branch lines are to leave the road at various places aluiig the line. The estimated length is 700 miles. Tlie general offices are to be located at Atchison.

The directors for the first year are T. M. Darrah, A. J. Harwi aud Frank Howard, of Atchison; S.

S. Brown and George W. Samuel, of St. Joe; II. A.

Farkcrand M. A. Law, of Illinois. Capital stock, 115,000, 000. It is understood that this is the coutemp'ated Kansas extension of the Rock Islaud road, several of tlie incorporators being officers in that company.

The charges against new appointees include almost every imaginable offense. Charges in regard to personal fitness and integrity have been filed in hundreds of cases, and Members of the Senate Committers are besieged at their houses by delega tus accusing of them defending new appointees.

A rediculous blunder was recently made by the appointmeut to an office in the Treasury Department of a young North Carolina lawyer. He had never studied book-keeping, but he readily secured ihe support of his State delegation, and was appointed by the Secretary Chief of the division or receipts and expenditures. The duties of this office deal entirely with book-keeping aud finding himself entirely at sea in his bus iness, he resigned, Instauces of such in adequacy on the part of new appointees are common enough but they do not have the honesty or moral courage to acknowledge their unfitness by offering their resignation.
