H. Drake. Likewise seasonable is an affecting and powerful story by Harold Frederic, entitled "The Eve of the Fourth," a remembrance of a war-time boyhood and a war-time love story. While the young readers will be moved by the story itself, older readers will be disposed to see between the lines dim visions of the troublous past. For those young girls who are looking forward to college, Miss So-per's sketch of "Festival Days at Girls' College" will tend to make still keener the longing to take part in the glorious ladylike larks here recounted.

Another seasonable story and one of the very best short stories of children that have been recently published is Marian Geh-ring's "An American Citizen." Though far away in Switzerland, the little hero contrives to keep the fire of patriotism burning with undiminished flame, and, incidentally, to bring about the conversion of a British subject.
